Scout Sunday was celebrated on Sunday, February 8. Our Lady of Fatima Church celebrated by welcoming the Scouts and Girl Scouts to the 9 a.m. mass. After mass, the scouts enjoyed fellowship, donuts, and orange juice with parishioners.

The values of both groups incorporate duty to God and country.

Congrats to all scouts, leaders, families, and supporters. And a special thank you to Father Tom Voorhies, mass celebrant, and Deacon Tim Maragos for your review of Catholic religious awards for many years.

At the annual Adult Awards mass, there is one scout award. This special award is for scouts who have completed all four National Catholic Committee Scouting awards: Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei, Ad Altare Dei, and Pope Pius XII.

The highest Catholic Adult Leader award for the CCS-DOL is the Silver Pelican. This year, the award was presented the award to Bishop Douglas J. Deshotel for his decades long strong support and enthusiastic endorsement and encouragement of Catholic Scouting. Thank you, Bishop, for your leadership and involvement.

Two additional awards, the St. George and the William J. McGoffin, recognize support of Catholic scouting and civic and religious involvement. Brian Thompson from the Evangeline Area Council received the St. George medal while Siby Ayallore - Troop 446 and Margo Croft - Troop 10 were selected for the McGoffin award.

Your lengthy commitment to Catholic scouting and to your communities is deserving of acknowledgement.

The annual St. George Mass and CCS Awards were held on October 29, 2025. Award recipients, their families, and CCS-DOL committee members attended mass followed by awards and ending with a dinner.

TThe Catholic Committee on Scouting -Diocese of Lafayette (CCS-DOL) provided a retreat for scouts interested in working on Catholic religious awards. The retreat include a rosary, mass, and time with religious award counselors who facilitated discussion and activities with Guardian Angel, Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei, Pope St. John Paul II, and Ave Maria. Here are some pictures from the mass in December. This annual retreat is offered the first Satuday in December.
