World Polio Day is October 24th. How are you joining this annual observation?

It’s a time to come together, recognize our progress in the fight to end polio, and talk about how we can eradicate this disease for good. More than 450 clubs across multiple U.S. states plan to hold polio walks around the same time on World Polio Day, an effort organized by Rick Reigner, governor of District 6440 in Illinois. Rotarians were proud to serve at the annual Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon in Zachary, coming together in a spirit of fellowship, faith, and community service. Events like these remind us of the importance of prayer, servant leadership, and working together to make our community a better place. We are grateful for the opportunity to support this special gathering and serve the people of Zachary. Thank you to everyone who helped make this annual event meaningful!

Rotary’s Service Above Self Award honors active Rotarians and Rotaractors who help others by volunteering their time and talents. Only district governors can nominate candidates for this prestigious award, and a maximum of 150 recipients are selected each year with typically no more than one recipient per district annually. It rewards hands-on, continuing humanitarian service and personal volunteerism. It is not awarded solely for holding elected or appointed Rotary positions, nor is it based on financial contributions to The Rotary Foundation.

If you know someone who has demonstrated exemplary service, encourage Governor Margaretta to nominate them for the Service Above Self Award, Rotary International’s highest honor. The deadline for nominations is October 31st.

Who do you know who is a Rotary change-maker who’s addressing the root cause of challenges that affect communities, helping to stop problems before they start? Nominate that leader for the 2026-27 People of Action Honors: Champions of Prevention. Rotary will recognize leaders ages 16 and older who are confronting the core causes of community instability through effective, sustainable projects. People of Action Honors are presented to Rotary projects that exemplify everything our organization has to offer. Born out of a White House initiative in the United States, the People of Action Honors highlight impactful, sustainable, and scalable projects that are models of service for clubs around the world.

Rotary, Rotaract and Interact members, Peace Fellows, Global Grant Scholarship recipients, RYLA participants, Rotary Youth Exchange students, or Rotary alumni ages 16 and older are eligible to receive a nomination. To learn more or submit a nomination, visit the People of Action Honors page.

As we celebrate Community Economic Development Month in October, consider how Rotary Community Corps can help create lasting change. RCCs are groups of community members that partner with clubs to identify local priorities, lead service projects, and develop sustainable solutions. By combining local knowledge with Rotary’s support and mentorship, RCCs strengthen communities while expanding Rotary’s impact and reach. OCTOBER MESSAGE FROM THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR

Dear District 6200 Rotary Family,
As we welcome October, I continue to be inspired by the heart of service I see throughout our district. In every club visit, every project, every new member welcomed, and every act of generosity, I am reminded of what is possible when we work together with a shared purpose.

October is Community Economic Development Month, and it is also the month when Rotary comes together around the world to recognize World Polio Day on October 24. Both remind us that Rotary is at its best when we turn compassion into action and action into lasting impact.

Our commitment to ending polio is one of Rotary’s greatest examples of what can happen when we refuse to give up. We have come too far to stop now. I encourage every club to share Rotary’s polio story, raise awareness in your community, and support the PolioPlus Fund. Whether through a fundraiser, a Purple for Polio activity, a community partnership, or a personal contribution, every effort moves us closer to our goal of a polio-free world.

This month also challenges us to look closely at the needs within our own communities. Economic development is about more than dollars—it is about opportunity, dignity, sustainability, and hope. It means helping families become stronger, supporting education, addressing food insecurity, developing young leaders, and creating opportunities that allow our communities to thrive.

I encourage each club to ask: Where can we make the greatest difference? Who in our community needs Rotary to show up? And what can we do together that we could not do alone?
Our impact does not have to begin with something large. Sometimes it begins with one project, one partnership, one new idea, or one Rotarian willing to say, “We can help.”

As we continue this Rotary year, let us keep building stronger clubs, expanding our reach, supporting The Rotary Foundation, investing in our youth, and serving our communities with purpose.
We are many clubs, but we are One District. One Mission. One Impact.
Together, let us Create Lasting Impact—one community, one project, and one life at a time.
