Congratulations to Joey, Matthew, Robert, Syler, Trace, Bode, Dailey, and Esau. Each completed a Young Eagles flight this morning.

For those who aren’t aware, the EAA Young Eagles Program gives young people ages 8–17 the chance to experience flight in a general aviation aircraft—at no cost. Since 1992, more than 2 million students have flown through this nationwide program, inspiring many to pursue aviation as a hobby or career.

Young Eagles flights for students are offered by The Appalachian Flyers, our local EAA Chapter 1617. All pilots are FAA‑certified volunteers. Special thanks to our pilots today - Rick Gilbride, David Thurman, and Ron Swope.

Appalachian Flyers Chapter 1617, is offering Young Eagles flights to students 8-17 years of age on Saturday May 9 -9:00 to noon (Rain Date Saturday 16). This is especially suitable, but not limited to, young people that might be interested on an aviation career or hobby.

The EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Young Eagles Program was launched in 1992 to give young people ages 8-17 the opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. More than 2 million Young Eagles flights later, we’ve seen a lot of young people gain the opportunity to experience the magic of flight for themselves, empowering them to dream and achieve beyond what they can imagine. For some, aviation becomes a lifelong hobby or career.

Pilots who participate in the Young Eagles Program are local members of the EAA who volunteer their time and aircraft to make each flight possible. Each Young Eagles pilot is certified with the Federal Aviation Administration. Flights are conducted according to federal regulations and no acrobatic maneuvers will be performed.
