Shelter Myth vs Fact!

MYTH: 🚫
“The dog is barking and lunging at the kennel door, so they must be aggressive.”

FACT: ✅
Barking, jumping, or lunging behind a kennel door doesn’t always mean aggression. This behavior can be called barrier reactivity, an emotional response caused by frustration, excitement, or stress when a barrier prevents the dog from interacting, moving away, or exploring freely.

Look at the difference! See how this dog’s behavior changes from being inside the kennel to spending time outside in the yard. Sometimes, a different environment allows their true personality to shine!

🐾 Meet Mirabel! 🐾

Mirabel first came to us as a mama to three kittens, and after being an amazing mom, all three of her babies have grown up and found their forever homes. Now, it’s Mirabel’s turn!

She’s been with us since April 12th, and while she was initially a little shy and skittish, she’s slowly come out of her shell and learned to trust people again. She may need a little time to feel comfortable in a new home, but once she does, she enjoys getting pets and is comfortable being picked up, although it’s definitely not her favorite thing!

After spending so much time caring for her kittens, this sweet mama is ready for someone to care for her. Could you be Mirabel’s forever family?

🐾 Animal Spotlight! Meet Scrabble! 🐾

Scrabble is a 2 year old, 65 lbs. playful pup who is always ready for a game of fetch! 🎾 Even better, he’ll bring the toy right back so you can keep the fun going!

This handsome guy is food and treat motivated and eager to make friends. Scrabble can be a little timid when meeting new people, but give him some time and patience, and he’ll slowly warm up and show you his sweet, playful personality.

Mission MVP Spotlight! Buckles Feed Depot & Pet Supply

Today we recognize the wonderful owners of Buckles Feed Depot & Pet Supply. Since the start of operations, Buckles has been a staple at our facility and a friend to our organization. They have provided our food pantry with dog, cat, and other animal supplies time and time again. Their love of pets and their passion to our community is a shining example of local businesses giving back in a big way! We are also so honored to have them as a room sponsor in our facility! Their sponsorship of our 'Other Animals' room was among our earliest room sponsorships! They helped supply our needs for specific non-dog-cat-related animals when they come into our care. The expertise they share and their generosity have helped us care for many types of animals. We are proud to be partners with Buckles, and we look forward to many years with their name in our hallways!

Barney likes to play "how many treats can I keep in my mouth at one time?" This very sweet boy is 2 years old and has been with us since 7/19. He shows signs of being POTTY TRAINED, seems to do well with other dogs, and is overall just a goofy boy.
