You and other sniper team members have pushed out ahead of the team to get eyes on. You are covering multiple sides of the structure from the wood line. Suddenly a suspect steps out onto the porch of his residence and yells “You are dead!” And raises a rifle in your direction. Or maybe he just begins to walk towards you, unarmed.

When deployed as a law enforcement sniper in a ghillie suit, cobra-hood, or just a set of cammies trying to conceal yourself, if compromised, what is your plan?

Have you thought this through? Have you thought about what happens if the suspect or subject of observation does one of the aforementioned actions?

You are more than likely on their property, and not easily and overtly identified as law enforcement. You are a bush with a gun!

Here a couple of possible ways to approach this?

1. Communicate The Situation! At first sign of potential compromise, communicate this to teammates and command. Hopefully part of your SOP is to have a QRF standing by.
2. Run! Have an exit plan and rally point. If breaking contact can possibly save the operation overall, this might be the best option. Maybe the suspect thinks it was just kids, hunters, or someone trying to rip them. *It might be best to establish this before stepping off on your op.
3. Identify Yourself! This can be done both verbally and visually. Keeping a neck badge under your cammies can came in handy, or a low viz ID placard like from
4. Prepare for a Fight. Depending on the circumstances, this might be your only option if you cannot run, and in addition to identifying yourself the probability of having to detain or use force is high.
5. Engage. Only you can make the determination if you feel like your life or the life of others is in danger if you do not act. Identify yourself if possible beforehand.

Have found that a good compact ghillie hood and this simple rifle camo hack can solve a lot of problems…or avoid them during rapid deployments.

Sniper Arts & Crafts time!

We recently were issued these tripods, the LEOFOTO ST-324CX.

Have to say this writer is impressed with the quality in terms of leg lock feel and deployment, and smoothness of the ball head and lever lock.

We wanted some tripods that could easily fit in any smaller packs we use, especially when going into the woods. So far these are getting it done.

Only issue is the same issue with almost every tripod manufacturer out there. We need more earth tones!

Not big deal, it just means now it’s Sniper Arts and Crafts time!

Wanted to try some this time which is stronger than Camoform Tape. And hopefully does not get as sticky as camoform in the heat.

Main legs wrapped in Goon Tape, with some beefy hair ties found at Walgreens. The hair ties are for quickly stuffing veg through to aid in concealment of sniper, and spotting scope or rifle.

Everything else on the tripod was given light hits of spray paint. Started with the sand to dull things out, then loam green, and finally the liquid gold known as Krylon Ultra-Flat Woodland Light Green. It’s literally Southern Louisiana in a can.

And that’s it!

*If you choose to paint your tripod do so lightly on the legs that extended. Doing heavy coats can interfere with the legs flowing smoothly. Same with the ball head area.

Tactical Team Dynamics: The Role of Sniper Initiated Assaults in Hostage Rescue

When it comes to hostage rescue, every second counts, and every team member plays a critical role. One of the most vital elements of a successful operation is having a clear understanding of sniper-initiated assault techniques.
Here’s why it’s essential for every member of the tactical team to grasp these concepts:

1. Precision and Timing:
A sniper’s ability to engage targets with precision allows the team to act swiftly and mitigate danger to hostages. Everyone needs to understand the timing of the shot to coordinate effectively.

2. Unified Communication:
Effective operations rely on clear communication. When every team member knows the sniper’s protocol, it reduces confusion and enhances operational flow.

3. Risk Mitigation:
Understanding the sniper’s perspective helps assess risks associated with different tactical approaches. This knowledge is key in minimizing collateral damage and ensuring hostage safety.

4. Enhanced Situational Awareness:
All team members should be aware of the sniper’s field of view and engagement zones. This awareness helps in planning movements and actions in relation to the sniper’s position.

5. Training Cohesion:
Regular drills and cross-training foster teamwork. When each member understands sniper techniques, they can better support each other, improving overall effectiveness during real scenarios.

We’ve just completed a “Sniper Initiated Assaults” document. It’s not the way, but a way. If active Law Enforcement and interested DM and we will tell you how to receive. If already part of LASNIPERS.org mailing list we will be sending out this evening.

Stay safe.

Every Team Needs a Sniper Instructor.

Every specialist needs a specialist teacher. Fi****ms, less‑lethal and CQB instructors build core skills — but sniper work is a distinct discipline that requires its own instructor‑level training.

Fi****ms instructors teach fundamentals and safety. CQB instructors teach movement and close‑quarters decision‑making. Less‑lethal instructors manage escalation tools. Sniper instructors teach observation, advanced ballistics, engagement judgment, how to train, and precision shooting skills.

Certified sniper instructors reduce organizational liability by establishing standardized curriculum, measurable competency, and training records that demonstrate due diligence and accountability after critical incidents.

Invest in a certified sniper instructor and you get safer decisions in the field, repeatable standards, and a force‑multiplying trainer who raises team readiness.

There are many good service providers out there. One of which, has a Sniper Instructor course coming up soon in KY if interested. 2nd 📸

Interested in your comments if you don’t have a sniper instructor on the team (the why).
