We are very happy to announce, Kyle works at CCW! The CENTER FOR CREATIVE WORKS is located at 241 Lancaster Ave, Wynnewood, PA 19096.😀 Kyle enjoys making art all day long.
Back in September 2025, Kyle moved on from "competitive employment" to "sheltered workshop employment" or moving to a vocational facility.
We did not announce his quitting of Marshall's retail store. We felt very defeated at that time. Kyle had worked there since high-school, permanently since 21 yrs.old. Kyle is now 29 years young.
Yes, he had all supports in place, including a job coach, but it was not for him.
Although Pennsylvaina is an "employment first" state, this kind of work leaves our population under employed. In Kyle's case, Marshall's reduced his hours to 4 hours 1 day per week.
What was Kyle doing when he wasn't at work?
Yes, Kyle was paid a good wage at Marshall's, but his quality of life was not met. Realizing that he could not work without a coach on site, we followed what many of his friends did successfully. Kyle enrolled in CCW.
Thank God places like this exist!
Parents often have to quit, or reduce their own work hours, when their adult with disabilities return home after school. Our children do fall off a cliff. Some parents have created "competitive jobs" for their adult child, and that is extraordinary!
Every person deserves to have a meaningful and purposeful job. Where does your child fit in to our society?
I believe that sheltered workshops have a place in our world too.
