This weekend, three of our scouts, Bobby, Melody, and Aaron, went to camp for Spring Fellowship, an Order of the Arrow event. At the event, the ordeal candidates do their ordeal, which consists of sleeping under the stars. Then, they wake up, eat breakfast, and do cheerful service, which involves getting the camp ready. All ordeal candidates must remain silent and listen. Each year, we have a different theme; this year's theme was Harry Potter. On Friday night, we arrived at camp and set up our tents. Aaron, being an ordeal candidate, had to sleep under the stars in a freeze warning, while Melody got to sleep in a cabin because she was an Elangomat, in charge of the candidates. Bobby slept in his tent and was freezing all night.

Bobby arrived on Friday evening, checked in, and put up his tent. He then went inside for Cracker Barrel and played games until lights out at 11. On Saturday, he woke up at 7, got dressed, and went to the dining hall for breakfast. Afterward, he was assigned to do wood splitting for his cheerful service. At noon, he ate lunch and continued splitting wood until 3. Then, he got ready for the ordeal ceremony where Aaron received his ordeal. After the ceremony, we had a feast, and Bobby dressed up as Hagrid from Harry Potter for the costume contest, which he won. Congratulations to him. Later, Bobby attended the Brotherhood ceremony as a ceremonialist and played Catan until 11 before going to bed. On Sunday, he woke up, packed his stuff, and left camp.

Melody arrived on Friday evening and set up her tent. She was assigned as an Elangomat, in charge of the ordeal candidates, and slept in a cabin. The next morning, she ate breakfast with the other Elangomats, consisting of a hard-boiled egg, bread, milk, and fruit. After breakfast, they walked the road, picking up garbage for their cheerful service. At noon, they had lunch, and Melody continued her duties. At 3, they were free, and she attended the ordeal ceremony. Afterward, she dressed up as Harry Potter for the costume contest but didn't win. She then attended the Brotherhood ceremony as a ceremonialist and played Catan until 11 before going to bed. On Sunday, she woke up, packed, and left camp.

Aaron arrived on Friday evening and forgot his suitcase with warm clothes. Thankfully, his dad brought it back to camp. Aaron had to sleep under the stars in the freeze warning and couldn't speak for the whole night and Saturday. On Saturday, he ate breakfast, consisting of bread, cheese, milk, and fruit, and did cheerful service by picking up garbage on the road. After lunch, he continued his service. At 3, he went to the dining hall and received his Order of the Arrow sash in the ordeal ceremony. Afterward, he had Cracker Barrel and played Catan until 11. On Sunday morning, he woke up, ate breakfast, and left camp. Congratulations to Aaron; welcome to the Order of the Arrow!

On Saturday the Troop went out to Josie Creek for a shooting day and cooking. The scouts were lucky enough to have John and Alan Kenyon come out to work on gun safety. The kids learned about different guns and were able to shoot at all 8 stations. They learned about bolt action, pump action, semi auto, and lever action as well peep sites, iron sites, and scopes. The scouts learned the 3 main rules of gun safety. The kids learned how to shoot standing up, sitting down, and laying down. We are so grateful for the time that Kenyon’s took teaching us gun safety.

After we were done shooting the kids came back to the pavilion to cook up a meal. The kids made hotdogs and muffins while also enjoying apples, peanut butter, oatmeal cream pies, lemonade, and hot chocolate.

We look forward to our next outing and more learning opportunities.

This weekend, Bobby Melody and Aaron all went to section conclave, where there were classes to be taken, a Dutch oven cook-off, and even a rave. Bobby supported the troops and attended the council class in the morning, then went to rope making to make a rope, and then attended the gain/retain members class. Melody went to AJ Adam's hair care in the morning, then went to rope making to make a rope, and then attended the gain/retain members class. Aaron went to AJ Adam's hair care in the morning, then went to rope making to make a rope, and then attended the intro to archaeology class. After all that, it was lunch, and lunch was sloppy joes. After lunch, there was slingshot shooting and a Dutch oven cook-off, and a lot more fun stuff. Bobby and Melody did the Dutch oven cook-off for the first time ever; they made a cobbler that you put your fruit in first, then cake mix, and then an 8-ounce soda, and the big thing about it is that you do not mix it all together. After they put it all together, they let it cook, and it looked amazing; they were proud of their cooking. After the cook-off, we had a chapel service where we said a couple of prayers, and then we went to flag and dinner, and dinner was chicken. After dinner was a patch auction where Bobby bid for a couple of patches from a different lodge; it was a cool thing to witness. After that, it was the officer elections, and Tyler Nacey, who works at Camp Phillips, got elected for section secretary, so congratulations to Tyler. After that was done, we got to witness Deb and Travis get slimed, and then after that, we had a rave where there was a lot of music and games. After that ended, which was at midnight, we all went to bed, and now we are counting down until the next section conclave. I’m a snake!
