This weekend, three of our scouts, Bobby, Melody, and Aaron, went to camp for Spring Fellowship, an Order of the Arrow event. At the event, the ordeal candidates do their ordeal, which consists of sleeping under the stars. Then, they wake up, eat breakfast, and do cheerful service, which involves getting the camp ready. All ordeal candidates must remain silent and listen. Each year, we have a different theme; this year's theme was Harry Potter. On Friday night, we arrived at camp and set up our tents. Aaron, being an ordeal candidate, had to sleep under the stars in a freeze warning, while Melody got to sleep in a cabin because she was an Elangomat, in charge of the candidates. Bobby slept in his tent and was freezing all night.
Bobby arrived on Friday evening, checked in, and put up his tent. He then went inside for Cracker Barrel and played games until lights out at 11. On Saturday, he woke up at 7, got dressed, and went to the dining hall for breakfast. Afterward, he was assigned to do wood splitting for his cheerful service. At noon, he ate lunch and continued splitting wood until 3. Then, he got ready for the ordeal ceremony where Aaron received his ordeal. After the ceremony, we had a feast, and Bobby dressed up as Hagrid from Harry Potter for the costume contest, which he won. Congratulations to him. Later, Bobby attended the Brotherhood ceremony as a ceremonialist and played Catan until 11 before going to bed. On Sunday, he woke up, packed his stuff, and left camp.
Melody arrived on Friday evening and set up her tent. She was assigned as an Elangomat, in charge of the ordeal candidates, and slept in a cabin. The next morning, she ate breakfast with the other Elangomats, consisting of a hard-boiled egg, bread, milk, and fruit. After breakfast, they walked the road, picking up garbage for their cheerful service. At noon, they had lunch, and Melody continued her duties. At 3, they were free, and she attended the ordeal ceremony. Afterward, she dressed up as Harry Potter for the costume contest but didn't win. She then attended the Brotherhood ceremony as a ceremonialist and played Catan until 11 before going to bed. On Sunday, she woke up, packed, and left camp.
Aaron arrived on Friday evening and forgot his suitcase with warm clothes. Thankfully, his dad brought it back to camp. Aaron had to sleep under the stars in the freeze warning and couldn't speak for the whole night and Saturday. On Saturday, he ate breakfast, consisting of bread, cheese, milk, and fruit, and did cheerful service by picking up garbage on the road. After lunch, he continued his service. At 3, he went to the dining hall and received his Order of the Arrow sash in the ordeal ceremony. Afterward, he had Cracker Barrel and played Catan until 11. On Sunday morning, he woke up, ate breakfast, and left camp. Congratulations to Aaron; welcome to the Order of the Arrow!
