This gem has sold. I am hoping the new owners will contact me so I can share pictures and history of the property.
It’s like saying goodbye to my parents all over again.

This house is sold. It is a rare place and I know the right person sees it’s unique value.

This week will mark the last time I will be able to gather with friends at the Schoolhouse Lodge before it goes up for sale.
It has been in my family since 1976. I have watched it grow from a one-room hunting cabin, heated with wood , with chemical pit toilets and an outdoor hand pump for water.
My father was not a great carpenter, but he had the mind of an inventor so the, now, two-story, 2800 sq ft home is full of his unique touches…. Doors and cupboards of tongue and groove cedar, driftwood handles he and my mother gathered on the beaches on the shores of Lake Huron.
The original schoolhouse flooring remains as a reminder of all the students who learned there, the times we camped out on the floor before the major additions, the cut-throat scrabble games we played and the rough and lonely times, too, as the family grew apart in distance.
I have made improvements and had dreams for the place in the 13 years since my parents’ passing. Now it’s time for some special person(s) to make it their own. My only hope is that it can be preserved and cared for with the same intentions we have had for this unique dwelling over the past 45 years.
From July 1-7 I will be getting the place ready for sale and spending time with trusted friends who know my heart’s desire for the place known as Standard School. You are welcome to come and commune during this time. Just let me know when you intend to be there.

Covid 19 has not been a friend to the Schoolhouse Lodge. Upgrades have been stalled and the location is a long drive for many.
It is with some sadness, I will be putting her up for sale in the near future. I will certainly let you all know when that process starts.
I hope the pandemic will allow for one more gathering sometime this Summer.
I’d like to put up some tents, get a bonfire together and have a weekend to remember before the big sale starts.
Thanks to those of you who visited and pitched in to help with her. It was a Noble effort, for sure.

The Schoolhouse has been winterized for the 5th year, now.
The dream of making this an education/retreat/vacation venue has been curtailed due to finances and pandemic.
This place is in the Alpena area, 4 hours from my home in Lansing.
I am asking those of you who follow this page and the endeavor to give me some feedback.
1) If the Schoolhouse was ready, would you have a weekend workshop you would want to present there?
2) Would you travel to attend a workshop or event at the Schoolhouse?
3) Is Northeastern Lower Michigan an area of the state you would consider taking a retreat or vacation to?
4) What questions do you have in order to answer any of the above questions.
Your input will be considered in the decision as to the future of the Schoolhouse Lodge.

We continue to work on the house and seems like it’s taking forever with Covid and workers getting called to other jobs before finishing a project.
The place will open up again in the Spring and I hope some of you will pay a visit before she is, officially, ready for vacation rental or workshop space.
Let me know if you would like to have a gathering, providing we are cleared of the pandemic situation.
