🎒💙 The Three C’s for Parents & Guardians: Supporting Mental Health This School Year

Welcome to a new school year! As students navigate new routines, friendships, academic pressures, and challenges, parents and guardians can play an important role in supporting their mental health and well-being.

NAMI’s Three C’s offer a simple way to stay connected:

🔎 GET CURIOUS
Notice changes in your child’s behavior and create space for conversation. Ask open-ended questions, listen without judgment, and explore what they may be experiencing together.

📝 GET CONCRETE
Use activities like 10 Questions on a Tuesday or A Week of Wellness to make conversations about mental health more comfortable, reduce stigma, and build resilience and self-care skills.

đź’™ STAY COMPASSIONATE
Let your child know they are heard and supported. Try phrases like, “Thank you for telling me that” and “We’re in this together.” Listen, avoid assumptions, and give them time and space to share.

Small moments of connection can make a big difference. This school year, let’s keep the conversation about mental health going. 💙

đź’™ Helping Your Child Resist Bullying

If your child is experiencing bullying, your support can make a big difference. Talk with them, remind them it’s not their fault, and help them practice calm, confident responses.

You can also:
• Create opportunities for positive social connections
• Talk about what helps them feel safe
• Involve them in deciding when to alert school staff
• Keep a record of bullying incidents

No child should have to face bullying alone. đź’™

On National Be an Angel Day, it’s important to know that being an “angel” doesn’t have to mean doing something extraordinary.

Sometimes it means listening without judgment, checking in on someone who is struggling, sharing a message of hope, or helping someone find the support they need.

That’s why NAMI advocacy matters.

Mental health affects all of us, and everyone deserves access to understanding, resources, treatment, and a community that cares.

Older adulthood (65+) can bring newfound freedom to retire and focus on new hobbies, travel, or spending more time with family.

However, older adulthood can also bring difficult life changes like losing loved ones, having more health concerns, living with aches and pains, having less independence, and experiencing financial challenges.

These life changes sometimes happen alongside mood symptoms such as grief, sadness, and loneliness.

NAMI helps senior citizens by providing free mental health support groups, educational programs, and resource referrals.

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, eight-session education program for family members, significant others, and friends of people with mental health conditions.

✨ Learn strategies, gain understanding, and connect with others who share similar experiences. Together, we can support our loved ones—and ourselves—on the journey to wellness.
