They protect this city for a living. Then they climbed through the ropes and fought for it.
Ten bouts. Twenty fighters. Every one of them a cop or a firefighter or union worker who spent months getting up before shift, getting hit in the face, and coming back the next morning to do it again, for people they’ll never meet.
That’s the part a 90-second reel can’t show you. The ring walk is thirty seconds. The work behind it was months.
To the fighters: nobody signs up to take punches in front of a packed house out of obligation. You did it because it’s who you are. The trophy went home with one team. The respect went home with all twenty of you.
To the Omaha Police Officers’ Association and the Local 385 firefighters: two groups that share the same mission every other day of the year, and for one night went to war with each other so the money could go to work for this community.
To the departments from our neighboring cities and counties who sent fighters and filled seats: Omaha didn’t have to be your fight. You made it one anyway. Thank you.
To the trainers: you took people with day jobs and made them fighters. Every clean jab, every round they gutted out — that’s your fingerprints.
To our sponsors: you turned a good idea into a real night. The full list is pinned below. Go give them your business.
And to Omaha: you bought the tickets, stood for the anthem, and never sat back down. This is what this city does when its police and its firefighters ask for help. It shows up.
See you next year. Tag the fighter you came to see.
