La Veta Beautification is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the streets of La Veta by providing vibrant flowers and maintaining local flower beds and downtown sidewalks.

LA VETA BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM
As the 2026 summer season comes to a close, we want to give a shout out to our team of volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the summer to keep the flowers in downtown La Veta looking beautiful. Our team maintains the vast number of flower pots on Main Street, two perennial flower beds on East Ryus, and our watering crew works 155 days each season to keep the flowers thriving, including fertilizing the flower pots twice a week. This work requires significant time, physical effort, and commitment.

Dear Downtown La Veta Beautification Supporters:

As the 2026 summer season comes to a close, we want to send a heartfelt Thank You for all of your generous donations. The flowers in downtown La Veta have been beautiful this year, and your support helped make that possible. Every contribution, large and small, makes a meaningful difference.

A huge Thank You to The Rawlings Foundation of Pueblo, CO, for the $5,000 grant for the new electric motorcycle style, dump bed watering cart with 100 gallon holding tank, making our daily flower pot watering much more efficient. And grateful Thank You to Glena Hickey for donating the spring water used for all flower pot watering during our town water restriction.

This marks the twelfth year of the Downtown Beautification Program - a community-driven effort, 60% operated by volunteers and funded entirely through donations. Our team maintains a vast number of flower pots on Main Street, two perennial flower beds on East Ryus, and our watering crew works tirelessly for 155 days each season to keep the flowers thriving, including fertilizing the flower pots twice each week. This work requires significant time, physical effort, and commitment. As some of our long-time volunteers retire from the more strenuous tasks, we are having to hire young helpers to keep the program going. With the rising cost of flowers and added payroll for labor, we rely on community support.

La Veta Beautification Program is pleased to announce our Main Street flower pots and hanging baskets will remain in place another couple of weeks as they have continued to bloom so beautifully this year. Thanks to our Beautification volunteer team, including Mary Peterson & Marge Thompsen, for making sure these flowers look their best all season. We are also grateful to The Rawlings Foundation of Pueblo for the $5,000 grant for our colorful new electric motorcycle style, dump bed watering cart with 100 gallon holding tank making our daily watering much more efficient!

Downtown La Veta Beautification Update 🌸

Downtown La Veta Beautification will continue working to keep our downtown looking beautiful, even during these challenging drought conditions.

We are incredibly grateful to Bachman & Associates for generously donating the use of a truck and water tank. Thanks to their support, we will be hauling water from an outside source to keep our downtown flowers alive over the next three months. This means we are not using the town's limited water supply for our watering.

We know many residents are dealing with drought restrictions and are unable to enjoy the lush gardens they normally have at home. That's exactly why we're making the extra effort to bring in outside water—to help keep our downtown welcoming, colorful, and vibrant for everyone who lives here and visits La Veta.

We also have some exciting news! This year, we were awarded a grant to purchase a new watering vehicle. It is a three-wheeled utility vehicle, similar in purpose to our old 1972 Harley-Davidson golf cart. We will be installing a larger water tank to make watering more efficient.

A huge thank-you to Chad Lessar of Lessar Construction for helping keep Ryus Street
looking beautiful! Chad generously donated his time, equipment, and crew to clean the
gutters along the flower beds we all enjoy on East Ryus.
Those flower beds were originally installed by the La Veta Tree Board and are now
maintained by La Veta Beautification. It's partnerships and teamwork like this that help
make our downtown shine!
As many people know, La Veta is a designated Colorado Creative District. This past
week, La Veta Beautification volunteers worked hard to weed-eat, clean up the downtown
corners, and make sure the flowers looked their very best for the PBS crew that was in
town making a documentary about Colorado's Creative Districts. We were proud to
showcase everything our wonderful community has to offer.
A heartfelt thank-you to Chad, our volunteers, and everyone who gives their time and
talents to help keep La Veta beautiful. Your support makes a lasting difference, and
together we're creating a community we can all be proud of.

Thank you to the La Veta Beautification, Inc. Board—Rachel Dressler, Courtney Morris,
Keri Meyler, and LaRissa Morris—for your dedication and leadership.
A special thank-you to LaRissa for organizing our volunteer program. A big shout-out to
Marge Thomsen for her fundraising efforts, and to Mary Peterson, who is possibly
preparing to help with management.
Russell Hickey's flower runs to the greenhouses are greatly appreciated, as is Susan
Hanneman's help with our spring planting.
A heartfelt thank-you to our incredible watering crew, who faithfully water every day from
the end of May through the beginning of October.
Laurie Martin, Michelle Morgan, Mary Peterson, Marge Thomsen, Leslie Sheriden , Laura
Bedford, and Mark make up the team that uses leaf blowers to clean the sidewalks each
week. They also maintain the large flower beds along Main Street. Together, this team
helps keep downtown La Veta beautiful and thriving.
A special thank-you to Kathy Angel, who does a beautiful job deadheading the flowers.
Thank you to all the men and women who helped set out the planters and hanging
baskets this season. Your hard work makes our community shine.
Our beautification program depends on donations and volunteers. However, as many of
our longtime volunteers are getting older, we are increasingly relying on paid positions to
keep the program running. If you'd like to support our efforts, we would be very grateful
for your donation.
