Last night, the La Salle Business Association held its annual awards banquet, which recognizes local businesses and businesspeople who have made a positive impact on the La Salle business community. The first award of the evening, the 2024 Businesspersons of the Year, was awarded to Tom Ptak & Lynn Cawley, owners of Studio 718 Hair Salon! 🥳🎉

Tom and Lynn are long-time business owners in downtown La Salle, who have owned and operated Studio 718 Hair Salon on First Street for 45 years. Even more impressive is the fact that their core staff has been with them for over 40 years, which speaks volumes to their character as employers. Tom and Lynn have both been active members of the La Salle business community during their time running the salon.

Tom has served as the Second Ward Alderman of La Salle since 2006, and he was just reelected to serve his 6th term. He has served as the finance chairman for the city since 2012, served on the LBA board for 14 years, and was one of the founding members of Jazz Fest. He also served on the YMCA board for 28 years. Consistently, for the past three decades, Tom has been either a boys or girls basketball coach between St. Patrick’s and Trinity Catholic Grade Schools, St. Bede Academy, the Amateur Athletic Union, and IVCC. He is currently the head coach for the girls’ varsity team at St. Bede.

Lynn is a devoted member of La Salle Catholic Parishes, and she has been a regular presence and volunteer at St. Patrick’s for many decades. She jokes that the youngest of her staff could be her grandchildren, and she loves and prays for them as if they are. She believes in supporting her employees and helping them grow. She considers them family and believes that the best way to manage her team is through collaboration, working together, sharing ideas, and educating. It’s no wonder her employees stick around for over 40 years!

Together, these two are a La Salle power-couple, unique from many of our business owners in the fact that they continue to contribute so much to our business community together as a pair.

Congratulations to Tom and Lynn on being named LBA’s 2024 Businesspersons of the Year!

A Cortado? It’s a sort of an extra strong latte, equal parts espresso and milk. Give it a shot! Enjoy with a flaky croissant, 🥐 this morning featuring a chocolate cherry with rose danish and a cheese pesto focaccia danish.
