The “pursuit of happiness, liberty, and life”

Sound backwards? The founding fathers would think so. They knew that America’s priorities had to be “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” and in that order as stated in the Constitution. They understood that if the country weren’t safe or were at war (“life), then we couldn’t be truly free (“liberty”). And they understood that if we weren’t free, then we couldn’t “pursue our happiness.”

Unfortunately, we have our priorities backwards and it shows. Too many of us care more about our pursuits of happiness than about ensuring the country is strong and thus free. - read more.

'CONTROVERSIAL' in media reporting means nothing. It is usually used to diminish someone's thoughts or actions. With 350,000,000 individuals in this country, anything and everything could be called controversial.

Don't allow the media or others to tell you what is true or how to act. So much of what is said simply isn't true and reflects the media's or individual's biases. It is a form of bullying. Decide for yourself!

So much false info is being spread, that we need to verify it to make good decisions. During the 1980’s cola wars, RC Cola ran a series of advertisements with a “Decide for Yourself” theme.

Americans don't want POLICE RESTRAINT anymore than we want POLICE BRUTALITY. Both result in anarchy, chaos and a diminished democracy.

Good Citizen launched its first website in 2003. Today, we launched a new website! It has a modern look, is easier to navigate and runs on all technology platforms. But it contains the same important messages.

A strong democracy is predicated on educated citizens who take time from their ‘pursuits of happiness’ to do things and make decisions that keep the democracy strong and the country free.

How are we doing? One indicator is that, for many years, fewer than 20% of Americans have approved of the way Congress is doing its job. But these are the same Americans who elected the representatives to Congress! So we have a lot of room for improvement.

Good Citizen is the only organization with a focus on helping Americans understand the importance of being effective citizens and on identifying specific ways - citizen actions - each of us can help keep our Democracy strong.”
