Council appears to be holding fast to the PERMANENT BAN but...
They are considering opening permits for a select few large estate lots and homeshares. They are looking for input.
Please stay diligent as you can hear in the council meeting Sanchez wants to open the door for more permits. The image shows the meeting and time he says so.

Sure you do! The city loses professionals, the city loses residents, The city loses families The schools loses children. The residents lose neighbors. Sales tax on consumer goods and auto and transport declines. The community loses volunteers. But YOU ARE MAKING BANK while we get left minding your customers. No thanks.

I was dismayed to see two things. One was the map that Linda Evans was presenting in the last two mayoral candidates forums. It is the map they printed in the GEM. She had it back at the church forum.

It implied to the public that there were just three tiny areas they were giving up to STVRs...most places would still be safe. The Cove, North La Quinta, and PGA West are expendable.
It sickened me.

Additionally, the doubling down in the newest edition of the GEM of more assertions of their legal right to oppose the residence initiative. "...'the city' has taken a stand against the measure".

"The City"?

Linda Evans, the council, and John McMillan now refer to themselves as "The City".

Linda may be qualified to run the city but the idea that she thinks that her personal ambitions outweigh the population of the city is a non-negotiable fault.

I get that they have no intention of representing their constituents. But railroading us is unconscionable. :(

”ANALYSIS OF LA QUINTA'S ANTI MEASURE A TOURISM ECONOMICS REPORT*
STVR visitors spend $142.8 million per year during La Quinta rental
* 68% is for accommodations, 12.8% for Food and Beverage, 7% for Retail
* 2/3 of the accommodation money goes to owners outside of La Quinta
* Visitors in hotels, long-term rentals and snowbird owners spend $435.7 million
* 28% for accommodations, 35.6% for Food and Beverage, 20.5% on Retail
* DOLLAR WISE, NON STVR VISITORS SPEND 8.4 TIMES AS MUCH ON AND BEVERAGE, AND 8.7 TIMES AS MUCH ON RETAIL.

Moving STVRs to the 11 TC Zoned communities and replacing them with residents, snowbirds or long-term renters will return proper zoning to our residential communities and inject the economy with the higher spending of residents and long-term visitors, which stays in La Quinta.Homes will be available for families, teachers, doctors and nurses and police and fire personnel, who will support our economy and fill our schools.

The businesses of La Quinta, who have been misled and frightened by the city's report of imminent failure will not suffer from having STVRs in TC Zones and residents in Residential Zones. TOT will continue to rise from the TC Zones when STVRs transition into them.”

Look at the powerhouses that backed Santa Monica"s requirement that Airbnb and Homeaway could not process transactions for unlicensed short-term vacation rentals. Incidentally only home shares are allowed in Santa Monica. This is a good read.
Other cities contributed to upholding the legislation. The League of California cities contributed to upholding the legislation.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has reaffirmed its rejection of Airbnb, Inc. and Homeaway.com’s challenge to the City of Santa Monica’s Home-Sharing Ordinance, which penalizes the online platforms for unlawfully booking short-term vacation rentals of...

VOTE YES ON MEASURE A

VOTE YES ON MEASURE A

Measure A is a citizen ballot initiative to restore YOUR right to live in a non-commercial single family residential neighborhood PROTECTED by a zoning ordinance.

08/20/2022

I just saw this in another group and thought it should be brought to the public's attention. They most certainly won't allow it to be posted in public forums as the council has individuals censoring those venues.

"Remember the Measure G tax increase they sold the voters on....warning that if they did not vote in favor of it that additional tax then police and fire services would be cut. Now I see Evans is using the same tactic to scare voters regarding the Short Term Rental vote. Does this Council ever tell the truth about anything? The following is the opposition statement residents put out against Measure G. Same arguments apply to the STVR issue. This is the ultimate tax and spend council:

The following official argument was submitted in opposition to the measure:[1]
The “tax and spend” culture in La Quinta needs to stop. After years of careless spending and irresponsible money management by our city and Council they are now asking taxpayers to cough up more money to bail them out of the mess they created, while they are holding onto substantial reserves. Over the last twenty years as a resident of La Quinta, I have seen:
All types of fees added to my property tax, utility and cable bills some of them city related.
Tax monies given away as business incentives or in the form of grants.
Sales tax and TOT rebates given to moneyed developers, and projects, to the detriment of our City finances.
Awarding no bid costly consulting contracts to well connected individuals, for projects the city could do.
Police, fire, and public employee salaries and benefits continuing to rise at alarming rates.
The city sank a large amount of RDA funds into the SilverRock Project a money losing project. We are stuck with a large bond repayment, covering the golf course loses plus other related costs, which this year took $543,000 from our “General Fund”.The City has developed no Plan B to reduce those costs.
The “Successor Agency” (RDA) has created a debt for the city of $350,000,000 which is repaid thru property taxes.
This tax increase proposition is not a “Special Tax” which would address real needs, but a tax that would be dumped into the “General Fund” to be spent by this Council as they see fit.
Approving this tax increase is like taking an Alka-Seltzer for your aching head when you need brain surgery.
We can VOTE NO to any new taxes and force change in our broken status quo system.[2]

Path to the ballot
This measure was put on the ballot through a vote of the governing officials of La Quinta, California."
