The Rudy Chavarria Scholarship Foundation is a public foundation established by Rudy Chavarria who dedicated 50 years of his life to the students of the Hacienda La Puente Unified school District. He worked 40 years for the district, and retired in 2003 to pursue his lifelong dream of running for the school board to make a difference in the lives of students and staff. He was elected to the Hacien

da La Puente Unified School District Board of Education in 2005 and served two successful terms as a school board member, finally retiring in 2013 to start this foundation. Chavarria has established this foundation with the single goal of supporting “good” students who have done well, but not necessarily the top-achieving students in the class. He wanted to make the opportunity for post-high school education available to any student who is active in school life, who is a solid citizen in society, and who has shown resilience and a positive effort in school even when faced with life’s hardships. Students applying for these scholarships can attend any accredited college, university, vocational/technical school anywhere in the country and major in any subject.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved community leader, Rudy Chavarria. A proud La Puente High School graduate, Rudy embodied the spirit of a true warrior. However, his battles weren’t fought with violence or unkind words but with kindness, resilience, and dedication to the cause close to his heart - his community.

Rudy quietly transformed our La Puente community compassionately, dedicating 50 years to the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District students. From 40 years of service in the district to two successful terms on the Board of Education, Rudy committed himself to making a difference in the lives of students and staff. In 2013, he founded the Rudy Chavarria Scholarship Foundation, which became a beacon of support and hope for many students.

Thank you, Rudy, for your years of service, selflessness, and love. Your legacy lives on in every life you touched.
