Hi all! I’m writing today to officially say that Bridgetown DIY is no longer operational and the collective is no more. Despite the best efforts of the remaining volunteers and core members, keeping the space and continuing to hold meetings has become too difficult amidst the pandemic and changing priorities. All donations we have left over will be sent to and . Thank you to everyone that supported us over the years.
If there's one thing that I learned over the last 8 years, it's that, no matter how well thought out or planned, DIY spaces, especially those that are operated collectively like BTDIY was, are inherently unsustainable for a myriad of reasons.
In spite of these challenges, and I think I can speak for everyone involved when I say: I'm incredibly proud of the collective for pushing on and accomplishing what we were able to for as long as we were able to. I'm so grateful for the friendships and the many lessons in community building/outreach the space and collective fostered. I'll forever be incredibly humbled by the response from the community and volunteers the many times over the years that we were SO close to pulling the plug prematurely. And most of all, I'm glad it's finally over lol
Good bye and thanks again. We'll see you at the collective meeting in DIY space hell (where the only thing on the agenda is where we're putting the new couch).
