Parents please participate in this study. Research in our community, by community members is SO VALUABLE, and helps to build resources and solutions. It can help to shape policy and inform Health and Human Services.

Your voice and the voice of Your children is so important.

Parents of Black high schoolers, this one’s for you!
We’re conducting a new study to help center the voices of Black youth in how identity is understood, supported, and celebrated.

Study Title: Exploring the Martin Model of Identity
Development

Who: Black youth currently in grades 9-12

What: A virtual 1-on-1 interview + brief survey (total time:
~90 minutes)

Compensation: $50 Amazon gift card

Where: 100% virtual

Why: Because their voice matters. And it’s time the world caught up.

This study is part of building the Martin Model of Identity-a theory rooted in the realities of Black youth, not outdated checklists or whitewashed ideas of development.
If you’re a parent, caregiver, educator-or you know a Black teen who should be part of this-comment “IDENTITY” and we’ll DM you the link to the parental consent form.
(We DM the link-so bots, fall back!)

Let’s center our youth. Let’s build the research they deserve.

Questions? Email: [email protected]

Please share with educators, youth groups, churches, and anyone who cares about Black teens thriving.

My life has taught me the power of solution based thinking.

It’s kept me alive, the shifting from “this is happening to me”, versus, “this is an experience I’m going through”.

A solution, in my opinion, is most fleeting, when you’re fighting for air after something catastrophic hits you. The strength required to be your own voice of reason, when nothing or no one is nearby to anchor you to your base? There are no words to accurately describe that to others.

Misguided and misdirected energy as a result of highly emotionally charged reactions, can cause you to totally miss opportunities to maximize what resources you have. You can squander the little you have instead of investing what you do have into acquiring more. Securing more.

Reactivity is a natural state for many of us. Mastering the art of the “slow response” takes time. Generations of time, sometimes.

I’m leaning into everything I’ve learned, up to this point. I’ve learned to make room for what I don’t know, inasmuch as I’ve learned to make room for my ego to adjust to humility, and vulnerability to trust the help of others who do know.

I’m taking my time. Making my time intentional, as I also make time for compassion, healing and growth.

I’m doing my best, and that’s more than enough.

The Black Wellness Innovation Fund is a funder collaborative that supports innovative, Black-led wellness work in Black communities. We are calling on national organizations to join us in building out this Fund to further support the collective wellness of Black communities.

Despite the growing awareness of Black mental health and distress in the United States, no national fund exists to support innovative, Black led wellness and mental health resources. The Black Wellness Innovation Fund aims to fill this monumental gap.

I’ve watched so many good and amazing impacts by Zarifa and we don’t always get to see the work being done at the grassroots levels because it’s not amplified enough.

Hello Caregivers,

It’s been a little while since activity on this account, but I’ve been working behind the scenes to build impactful tools for Mental Health Family Caregivers, that’s more caregiver health and well-being focused.

Be sure to sign up for the newsletter because a lot of resources and caregiver tools will be in there. I’m intentional about what I share so it won’t just be more junk to deal with.

The word for this month is “Peace”.

I know the new month doesn’t start until tomorrow, but we get to choose how we engage whatever we are facing, and right now there are a combination of things we are facing in our country and on a global scale.

One thing remains a constant, no matter what we are facing, and that is we get to choose how we react.

Peace just feels good rolling off the tongue.

Peace feels like warm water over sore muscles in our minds.

Peace stills our heart. Calms our nerves.

I love Peace.

I want to exist there as often as possible.

May the Creator(or whomever you worship) of us and the Universe find space in our hearts and bodies, and the Peace from THEM rest there.

See you soon in the “Care-Fully” Community, the Newsletter, or our social media accounts.

Thinking of Regina King and Ian Alexander Jr. today. I’m sending Love and Light to a Mommy, peace and Love to her Baby, and hoping for compassion from people towards their family.

Nurturing and Nourishing the caregiver.

Welcome to 2022 Caregivers!

Hopefully you’ve managed to remain in good health, and if not, we are sending lots of love and healing energy your way.

We chose the annual theme “Nurturing And Nourishing the Caregiver” because we are in year two of a pandemic, and we all can use some compassion and kindness.

Our focus this year is t as structured, and will be more relaxed, “nurturing and nourishing”.

Looking forward to serving you this year and partnering with you as we encourage and offer a nurturing and nourishing content focus this year.

Caring without let up, and in some states, within quarantine guidelines, means a lot of the caregivers resources will go to keeping a calm environment in the home. Additional challenges with access to supplies that were already in short supply, add to the anxiety and management of difficult situations.

We hope to be a resource for you.

Looking forward to a year of making the best of what we have.

With kindness ✨
