Floating Lotus Farmstead and Spye Park

Floating Lotus Farmstead is a first-generation farm operated by Adam and Jocelyne Cottrell. Since 2016, they have grown a variety of vegetables and herbs using chemical-free, regenerative practices. The farm participates in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), connecting locals with fresh produce and guaranteed shares of the harvest. Learn more about Floating Lotus Farmstead on their page: Floating Lotus Farmstead
In late 2024, the Cottrells became responsible for Spye Park, established in 1741. By securing permanent conservation and protecting it from development, they guarantee this land will be used for farming for future generations.
Spye Park is a historic home in White Plains, Charles County. Built around 1767, it is a 1½-story, three-bay colonial frame house. The original structure was once a rectangular, one room building with end chimneys. The home’s current structure was shaped by 19th- and early 20th-century alterations. On the property you will find a to***co barn, animal barn, corn house, poultry house, machine shed, and wellhouse. Spye Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. The outside of the house will only be on the tour.

Charles County House and Garden Tour –
Saturday, May 16, 2026

Built in 1999, the Hillman home offers breath taking views of the Port To***co River. The property includes a charming pergola and an inviting tiki bar. The entrance is guarded by two majestic stone lions, Yin and Yang, these lions are considered by the owners to be gargoyles, protecting the home from "bad spirits."
Michael and Miriam Hillmann, the proud owners of the Hillman Residence, are distinguished patriots with impressive military backgrounds. Michael served honorably in the Marines, while Miriam contributed her expertise in the Navy. Michael is renowned for his continued support of the Navajo riders, who annually honor Gold Star families. He is also an avid wildlife photographer, and some of his works may be showcased during the upcoming house and garden tour. Miriam's dedication to community service has earned her the prestigious Presidential Award.
Inside the Hillmanns’ home, visitors will find a variety of items with deep sentimental value. Among these are a repurposed flag, a classic grandfather clock, and a handcrafted wooden American flag. Miriam has shared some of the residence’s intriguing mysteries: at times, around midnight, the delicate sound of what resembles a music box can be heard. Additionally, some guests have reported seeing the apparition of a well-dressed young man carrying bottles of wine, walking from the living room toward the front door. Those who encounter this figure describe a sense of curiosity rather than fear, as the apparition quietly fades away.
