The Oregon / Idaho border was established 161 years ago and is now outdated. It doesn't align with the location of the cultural divide between northwestern Oregon and Idaho. We are a group of 12,000 people working to move state borders. Our PAC is called Move Oregon's Border,

A Christine Drazan win would be huge for Eastern Oregonians. It would put somebody that shares our value-set at the top of Oregon govt appointing agency heads and vetoing bad laws that come out of the legislature, who also understands and appreciates our way of life and wants to help us preserve that. A huge win for sure.

But even if Drazan wins, the divide between E and W OR will still be there. The Oregon Legislature will still be supermajority Democrat, and E Oregon will still be at the mercy of the Portland Metro area for any statewide ballot measures. It's doubtful that Portland will take having a Republican governor very well, and political tension and turmoil in our state is likely to go up, not down. The long-term solution for our state, and the best solution, is political separation so that Eastern Oregon can join Idaho. That doesn't change regardless of who wins the Governor's race.

Part of the challenge of moving Oregon's border has been the lack of advocacy from elected leaders at the local level. Lake Co. is a perfect example. An incredibly conservative county, voters there passed our measure asking for advocacy on moving the border in 2021 with 75% of the vote. After initially writing a letter asking OR legislators to take up the issue, the county commissioners have spent the last 4+ years doing little to advocate for what voters clearly said they wanted. Instead, they pursued ending the meeting requirement by referring a measure to the ballot in 2024. That measure was soundly defeated, reiterating that voters wanted action and advocacy from their commissioners on the issue. But instead of responding to voters' wishes and increasing their efforts towards moving the border, the commissioners did nothing for two years and have once again referred a measure to the ballot to try and undo the initial measure.

It's not hard to see why voter apathy exists in E OR when voters consistently vote for a specific change and then watch their leaders refuse to try and implement it, or worse, work to subvert it at every opportunity. If our situation in Eastern Oregon is to change, we are going to need to vote in leaders who are committed to listening to voters, and then doing what they want.

Reminder that the Oregon Constitution starts this way:

"Natural rights inherent in people. We declare that all men, when they form a social compact are equal in right: that all power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on their authority, and instituted for their peace, safety, and happiness; and they have at all times a right to alter, reform, or abolish the government in such manner as they may think proper.—"

Nearly 200 years ago, Eastern Oregon was pulled into this social compact against the wishes of the people who lived there at the time. We now wish to alter that compact, as is our stated right. There's nothing radical about wanting to join a neighboring govt. that better reflects our values. What is radical is Western Oregonians ignoring their own stated principles to maintain political control over people who simply want to peacefully separate from them.

DSA is a metro-area movement. The rest of Oregon has no desire for these policies but watch as the radical ideas supported in Portland slowly start to get pushed into our communities or passed at the state level. The solution for the rest of OR is clear. Separate from the Portland metro area or suffer the consequences of their poor decisions.

This Eastern Oregon woman is a hero for fighting back against the state's discriminatory policies towards conservative Christians and winning. But her case only highlights how hostile to the values of Eastern Oregonians our own state govt. is and how much effort it takes to undo even one harmful policy. Separating from Portland and joining Idaho is how we preserve our values and way of life.

People should have the right of self-determination. If the people of Scotland, Wales and N Ireland want to separate, they should be able to. Just like we in Eastern Oregon should. Leaders keeping people from exercising self-determination are on the wrong side of human rights.

On his recent swing through Eastern Oregon,
Congressman Cliff Bentz handed out this flyer on Oregon's economic and societal woes. These are all true, and are all state governance issues. E Oregonians, or he as a Federal Representative, have little ability to change them directly.

Rep. Bentz does, however, have enormous ability to petition the Federal Govt on behalf of the people of E OR to intervene in our situation and help us separate from the Portland voters who've gotten Oregon to this point. It's time for Rep. Bentz to lead on moving the border.
