Most of us are used to having the ability to grab a quick snack whenever we want it. That doesn't end when you enter a nursing home. Facilities must present snack options if a resident would like them. To bolster your right to snacks or alternative meals, make sure it's in your care plan!

Financial exploitation happens when someone illegally or improperly uses your loved one’s money or belongings for their personal use.

If a resident deposits personal funds with their facility, the facility must place funds greater than $50 into an interest-bearing account and make individual financial records available through quarterly statements to the resident or resident’s legal representative.

Residents in long-term care have rights protected by federal law. If you believe a facility is failing to provide safe, quality care, you have the right to report it to your state’s licensing agency.

Speaking up can protect not only your loved one, but other residents as well. 💜

A very special celebration for a local American hero, Worthington Manor Senior Living honored George Waters on his 105th birthday.

The birthday celebration took place June 12 at 2:30 PM and included cake, live music, and recognition of a remarkable life that has spanned more than a century of history.

George is a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Ball Turret Gunner. On February 22, 1944, his aircraft was shot down over Germany. He endured 15 months as a prisoner of war and survived a grueling 500-mile march during the harsh winter months before eventually returning home. His incredible story of courage, resilience, and survival is chronicled in an autobiography that continues to inspire others.

Worthington Manor Senior Living invited family, friends, veterans, and Hood News Peeps to join in celebrating George’s extraordinary milestone and honoring his service and sacrifice.

Happy 105th Birthday, George, and thank you for your service to our country.

💜June 15 is Elder Abuse Awareness 💜

Every older adult deserves to age with dignity, respect, and safety. Let’s be the voice for those who may not have one. If you see something that doesn’t seem right, speak up. Awareness can save lives.

Protect. Advocate. Empower.

Together, we can help end elder abuse.
