Please stay weather aware. The NWS is tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms it’s standing from near Channelview to Pasadena to Friendswood to near Rosharon. Each storm within this cluster is nearly stationary hazard wind gusts up to 40 mph source radar indicated impact dusty winds could not down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects locations impacted include Pasadena Pearland league city southwestern Baytown southeastern Missouri city, Friendswood, La Porte, Deer Park, Alvin, Dickinson, South Houston, Santa Fe, Seabrook, Galena Park Jacinto city, Webster, Manvel, Kemah, Cloverleaf, and South belt /Ellington

Hang on everyone, this might be a bumpy ride.

9 AM Tuesday Tropical Update
Tropical Storm Bertha remains a lopsided system with wind shear pushing most of the storms over the Gulf waters in the southern half of the circulation, but it is slowly gaining strength as it drifts toward Louisiana

The storm reminds me a lot of “Hurricane” Barry in July 2019. I put hurricane in quotes because it certainly did not look like one. It was highly sheared with most of the storms over the Gulf and eventually made a landfall in Louisiana. We got a little bit of rain out of it here in Southeast Texas. If all goes according to plan, something similar should happen with this one, but we will continue to monitor any changes in the trajectory just in case.

We’ll have a new track and intensity forecast out from the national hurricane Center by 10 AM with their latest thinking, and our team will keep you updated 24/7 as needed throughout this week as we figure out the degree of impacts we will have from Bertha.

NWS 7AM Tropical Depression Two Update:

-Tropical Depression Two is expected to become a tropical storm as it meanders over the northeastern and north-central Gulf over the next couple of days.
-By late Tuesday into Wednesday, the system is expected to turn more westerly.
-A great deal of uncertainty remains regarding the system's exact track and intensity beyond Wednesday.
-Tropical Storm force winds may arrive in our coastal waters as early as Wednesday evening, with increasing chances for rain and thunderstorms Thursday-Friday across SE Texas.
-Regarding the potential for wind, storm surge, and severe weather impacts, additional data over the next day or so will help us better assess those threats for later this week.

Bertha is expected to be a reality. It is expected to be in Houston by Friday morning at 7am.

🌀 NHC has upgraded Invest 91L to Tropical Depression TWO. This is expected to become soon.

What we know: This storm will bring periods of heavy rain and storms to the US Gulf Coast. Tropical storm conditions are possible within the next few days along the Florida Panhandle. Coastal flooding up to 3 feet and rough surf is possible along the Big Bend of Florida today/tomorrow.

Beyond that, we are in monitoring things as details are fuzzy—all depending on the evolution of TD-2.

Understanding the map….It’s still far too early to determine the specific impacts, timing, or track for Texas. While the National Hurricane Center forecast cone extends into the western Gulf, the cone represents the possible path of the center—not where impacts will occur.

Forecast confidence decreases later in the week, and even small changes in the track could make a big difference in who sees rain, wind, or other impacts.

Get prepared. Expect rain and wind, upwards of 50mph. Stay tuned for updates as we get them.

Tropical Depression # 2 has formed in the Gulf and the National Weather Service/ National Hurricane Center has issued the first forecast track related to this tropical system.

Still very early to know exactly where this system will go and how strong. But now’s a great time to keep an eye on the forecast and be prepared to enact your hurricane preparations later this week.
