Neither rhinos nor elephants grow true horn, but for the sake of their survival and to get more people jovially involved, the Save A H***y Friend™ Foundation is proud to sport a humorous name! SAVE A H***Y FRIEND™ Foundation (SAHF) is a serious campaign with a fun approach to combat the poaching of rhinoceros and elephants, which has become so severe that without intervention their populations wil
l be extinct in the wild in a few years. FOUNDATION GOALS
1) Crowdfunding Campaign: Drum up support and enthusiasm for a crowdfunding campaign to fund the projects listed below.
2) Tackle the demand end of ivory and horn in the United States with a focus on California. The United States is widely known to be the second largest importer of ivory after China.
3) Fundraising Website and Education: Build a fundraising website that generates a continued income stream through a full-circle model of addressing the false belief that rhino horn is an aphrodisiac and cures impotence with animal-friendly sexual-health solutions such as sustainable adult sexual health, toy and entertainment companies through an affiliate-type collaboration, and educate that neither rhino horn nor elephant tusks are aphrodisiacs, makes us sexier, makes us healthier or solves any sexual or social problems—as is commonly believed in Asia. The adult toy industry is a $15 billion industry - why not redirect some of that profit to a good cause?
4) Host live fundraisers that involve the community and spark innovation of other solutions such as using modern technology to address this "mammoth" problem.
5) Help on the ground in Africa by financially supporting anti-poaching efforts of non-governmental groups who have shown particular efficacy in their approaches to protecting rhinos and elephants, such as PAMS Foundation in Tanzania, Botswana Rhino Conservation, VETPAW and the ever-growing use of drones to find poachers. BRIEF HISTORY on HUNTING & POACHING
Human hunting is believed to have contributed to the extinction of the Mammoth. Similarly, the Asian rhinoceros and Asian elephant exist only in marginalized populations and will soon be extinct in the wild due to recent poaching, as well as excessive, legal hunting practices. The only remaining potentially viable populations of elephant and rhino left on the planet are in Africa, but like in Asia, they too now exist in only minuscule quantities compared to populations a few decades ago, and live in limited areas due to the current explosion of poaching by modern humans. Ongoing human hunting combined with habitat loss has decimated the populations of both species—they are now about 4% of what they were in 1900! Both rhino and elephant are hunted solely for their horn and tusks—other body parts are seldom used and the butchered carcasses are left to rot in the dirt, sometimes even while the animal is still alive. The last five years have led to an alarming decline of both species as the adults are poached faster than young are born, young are often shot first to attract adults, and each year's death toll increases over the last. At this rate, both species are expected to go extinct in the wild in less than ten years.
