Students for Civil Rights in Iran, UCSD

Students for Civil Rights in Iran, UCSD Students for Civil Rights in Iran is a registered student organization at UCSD dedicated to promoting human rights and democracy in Iran.

We hold events to educate both the non-Iranian and Iranian student population about the movement for democracy with both Iranian and non-Iranian student audiences and the general San Diego community, featuring great speakers such as the prolific Iranian Studies Professor Hamid Dabashi of Columbia University and Head of Persian Studies at UC Irvine Nasrin Rahimieh, as well as prominent women’s righ

ts advocate, Shadi Sadr, and prominent human rights lawyer, Mehrangiz Kar. Recently, we passed a resolution near the June 12 elections anniversary condemning the Islamic Republic for human rights violations and expressing solidarity with the Green Movement. SCI made UCSD the first school to have a student government to do so. SCI has also written an open letter to President Obama, urging him to act upon his promise to commit to ending human rights violations. We also wrote a resolution on behalf of UCSD’s Associated Students, urging the Islamic Republic for the release of arbitrarily detained hikers. We are currently planning a conference of student activists on behalf of Iran with other colleges this year. Students for Civil Rights in Iran is also networked with other progressive student organization that care about human rights.

Assad’s forces have launched what appears to be one of their fiercest assaults on the flashpoint city of Homs to date. Both the United States and Br...

Statement written by ISAA and endorsed by Students by Civil Rights in Iran in condemnation of Iranium, a neocon propaganda film advocating war with Iran.

The Iranian Student Alliance in America (ISAA) at the University of California, Berkeley is deeply concerned with the launching of the film Iranium, directed by Alex Traiman and produced by the Clarion Fund.
