A Happy 14th Gotcha Day and update for Travis (2769), adopted June 24, 2012, at 18 months old. Travis was adopted by Amanda & Andrew. Here is Travis' very unique "backstory" of how he came to be an SCDR rescue dog.
In early June 2012, two teenage boys walked into a doggy day care/grooming shop on a busy thoroughfare in Los Angeles with Travis. They told the proprietor that their mother adopted this dog from the shelter about a month ago. She discovered that she was highly allergic to the dog and told her boys to “get rid of him”.
So, they walked the streets of L.A. with him until they found a place to dump him. The proprietor said she did not want the dog, so the boys took him, walked out of the shop, dropped the leash and ran off, leaving poor Travis alone and confused in the middle of the sidewalk on a street with heavy traffic.
Shocked and dismayed, the proprietor ran outside and tried to retrieve Travis before he ran out into the street to his death. It took her ten minutes, and with the help of a Good Samaritan, they were able to catch the now terrified Travis and get him back inside the shop. A quick phone call to SCDR, and Travis was saved. Within 24 hours, he was in his foster home. The rest is history.
Amanda & Andrew are blessed to have Travis and sent this wonderful update to commemorate his joining their family.
From Amanda:
"Given his Gotcha Day is coming up in 13 days, I thought I should give an update. We picked Travis up almost 14 years ago. He’s now 15.5 years old. He was diagnosed with Cushings and a heart murmur a few years ago. And as of last year, liver cancer. He is not too sick yet and is very active luckily. All the vets he’s seen since he was diagnosed with liver cancer have said from the outside, they wouldn’t have a clue that he has cancer because he’s so vivacious.
He’s brought so much joy and love to our family and we hope to have a few more good years with him. We truly appreciate all what you’ve done for all the dogs you’ve rescued over the years."
