Another Outstanding Young Man from Alto Bonito, Texas
Mr. Pablo Peña, Jr., 19, from Alto Bonito, Texas is completing his basic training in the United States Army. He is the youngest son of Mrs. Carmen Torres and he has two brothers and two sisters. He attended Alto Bonito Elementary, Grulla Middle School and graduated from Grulla High School in May of 2026.
Pablo has worked as a migrant worker since he was 3 years old, having worked through his adolescent years in the agricultural fields in Minnesota. He learned at a very young age the value of hard work, the sacrifices associated with it and the importance of striving for a better future.
His mom has worked and toiled hard to provide for her family. She now has the satisfaction of seeing her son Pablo achieve one of his most cherished dreams.
Pablo, who just turned 19 on October 19, will be completing his basic training on October 22, 2026 and graduate from the United States Army with the rank of Private E-2, Military Occupational Specialty: 88M—Motor Transport Operator. He has been training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. His training experience includes the gas chamber, Victory Tower, Obstacle Course and the Forge Training Exercise.
For the family, this is a very special moment. His sister Perla said, “We are truly proud to see this young man serve his country. He has been transformed into a humble, responsible and hard working man. We know that behind every successful person, there are many sacrifices, efforts and above all blessings from God. May the Lord continue to guide, protect and fill him with blessings in each step of this new chapter of his life.”
Private Peña credits his elementary teacher, Mrs. Melissa Martinez (now assistant principal at Alto Bonito Elementary), for influencing him early on. “She is someone I will remember. She showed me kindness when I needed it.”
Private Peña has this advice for students: “Never give up on your goals, stay disciplined and remember where you come from. Your circumstances do not define what you can achieve.”
