A few nights ago, we responded to a small chimney fire, and while everyone was okay, it’s a good reminder to pause and think about home heating safety during cold weather.

Chimneys should be inspected and cleaned at least once a year to prevent dangerous buildup. Only burn seasoned firewood; never trash, cardboard, or treated wood, and always keep the damper open while the fireplace is in use. Fires should never be left unattended, and every home should have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Space heaters can help keep rooms warm, but they need to be used carefully. Keep heaters at least three feet away from anything that can burn, plug them directly into a wall outlet, and never use extension cords or power strips. Heaters should be turned off before leaving the room or going to sleep, and it’s best to use models with automatic shut-off and tip-over protection. Space heaters should never be used to dry clothing.

A little prevention goes a long way. Stay warm, stay safe, and we’re here if you need us. 🚒🔥

With great sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Michael Dillon, President of our Board of Trustees.
Mike faithfully served the district for over 50 years, and he will be deeply missed.
On behalf of the Braidwood Fire District, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Mike's family and acknowledge the lasting impact he had on the lives of numerous residents within our district and beyond. Please pray for comfort for his wife and family.
