Cancer does not discriminate... it affects 1 in 3 people. The H Foundation was created, as all great ideas are, over a cocktail called the Goombay Smash.

It started out as a few friends with entrepreneurial spirit that decided they could make a difference in the fight against cancer. So, every Summer The H Foundation hosts the Goombay Bash, a fundraising event under the disguise of a casual Caribbean-style party. Since 2001, The H Foundation has raised over $12 million donating nearly every dollar raised to the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer

Center of Northwestern University. These funds are used as seed money for basic science cancer research projects to help them compete for additional government or private funding. As a result, our donations have been leveraged into over $250 million of research dollars towards finding a cure. The H Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization. 100% of our funding comes from donations by generous businesses, communities, families, individuals, and...from you.

💜 Honorary Chair Announcement 💜

We are honored to announce that Laura Orrico will serve as the Honorary Chair of the 24th Annual Goombay Bash on July 25, 2026.

A Chicago native, accomplished actress, entrepreneur, and owner of Laura Orrico Public Relations, Laura has built a successful career helping others tell their stories. This year, she is sharing one that is deeply personal.

In 2007, Laura's husband, Ryan, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Thanks to innovative cancer research, Ryan courageously battled the disease for eight years—giving them invaluable time together and countless memories they otherwise may not have had.

Today, Laura continues to honor Ryan's legacy by using her voice to advocate for cancer research and inspire hope for families facing the disease.

"Without innovative cancer research and the money raised to support it, I don't think we would have had that time together."

Laura's strength, resilience, and commitment to making a difference embody the spirit of Goombay Bash. We are proud to have her lead us as we come together to fund groundbreaking cancer research and bring hope to those impacted by cancer.

At The H Foundation, we are incredibly grateful for individuals like Juan Delarosa who choose to turn their personal journey into something bigger than themselves!

Diagnosed with chronic leukemia at just 13 years old, Juan has faced cancer with remarkable strength and resilience. Today, he’s taking that fight even further—using his passion for endurance racing to make a difference for others. Through half and full IRONMAN races, Juan is dedicating every mile to raising funds for basic science cancer research.

It takes courage to step forward. It takes heart to give back while still fighting your own battle. And it takes someone truly special to inspire others along the way.
