In health news today...

The New York Times reports, "For the first time in 27 years, the definition of Alzheimer’s disease is being recast in new medical guidelines that reflect fast-mounting evidence that it begins ravaging the brain years before the symptoms of dementia." The definition of the disease will be recast for the first time in 27 years, with a division into three stages, including a new early phase.

New research from the CARDI (Centre for Ageing Research and Development in Ireland) confirms a long-held Betty’s Tenet: Medicines given to treat elders in nursing home (e.g., sedatives and benzodiazepines) ultimately puts them at risk of falls and fractures, leading to hospital stays.
