The Red Door was established to create and support Red Doors in the rural region of Colorado and Fayette Counties. It accomplishes this by raising funds to support: 1) awareness and education efforts and 2) services and providers. In supporting these, the Red Door seeks to help local individuals who are struggling with mental illness as well their families and friends caring for them. Awareness an

d Education
The Red Door creates, encourages, and supports mental illness awareness and education efforts, with the ultimate goal of lessening the associated shame and stigma – thereby creating Red Doors everywhere in the form of individuals. Each and every person can be a red door by simply adopting a better understanding of mental illness and being cognizant of how we react and interact with those struggling and their loved ones. What they are experiencing is real. Often because of the shame and stigma, people choose to keep their condition and struggle quiet. Acceptance, understanding, and outreach can mean better outcomes. Services and Providers
The Red Door attracts new services and providers and increases access to existing services and providers – thereby creating more Red Doors in the form of resources that individuals and families can turn to right here where we live. Data confirms that our region (Fayette and Colorado Counties) is in a mental health care desert. The ratio of providers to population significantly exceeds that of the State. We aim to help reduce that ratio.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it is a reminder that mental health is part of community health.

The Red Door Fund for Mental Health exists to strengthen equitable access to mental health care across rural South Central Texas by investing in programs that reduce stigma, expand care, and support individuals and families impacted by mental health challenges.

If you want to show support this month, here are three simple ways to be a Red Door in your community:

- Start a check-in conversation with someone you care about
- Share trusted local resources when you can
- Support the organizations doing the work on the ground
