Meditation can be easy to dismiss if teens picture sitting completely still, clearing their minds, or practicing for long periods of time. In reality, there are many ways to meditate, and getting started can be much simpler than it seems.

Meditation Basics will clear up some common misconceptions and introduce teens to approachable techniques they can try for themselves.

They’ll also learn why these practices can be useful and how meditation can fit into everyday life without requiring a major time commitment.

Urges can feel incredibly strong while they’re happening, but they don’t stay at their highest intensity forever.

Urge Surfing returns to The Loft after an earlier session this summer to help teens understand the natural rise and fall of an urge.

Using the idea of riding a wave, teens will practice noticing what they’re experiencing without immediately acting on it and learn how giving an urge time to pass can create more room to choose what happens next.

For some teens, anxiety doesn’t always look like worry. It can show up as feeling like every assignment has to be flawless, every decision has to be the right one, or a mistake means they didn’t do well enough.

Perfectionism and Anxiety will examine how those pressures can reinforce one another and leave teens feeling caught in a cycle that’s difficult to break.

Together, they’ll consider where those expectations come from and ways to approach mistakes, uncertainty, and their own standards with less pressure.

Stress and anger often feed into each other. When teens already have a lot on their plate, even a small frustration can feel much bigger than it normally would.

Anger and Stress will take a closer look at that connection and help teens understand how a heavy stress load can affect their patience and reactions.

They’ll practice practical ways to deescalate when frustration starts building and consider how responding differently can keep anger from taking over the situation.

Having your trust broken can change the way you feel about a relationship and leave you wondering what comes next.

For teens, learning how to respond to betrayal also means recognizing that forgiveness, rebuilding trust, and setting boundaries are separate choices.

In Trust and Betrayal, teens will talk through what happens after trust has been damaged, what it can take to earn it back, and when stronger boundaries may be necessary.

The conversation will help teens consider their own needs and expectations while making decisions about how they want to move forward in their relationships.

Self-care can look different depending on what you need. Sometimes a small reset can help you get through the day, while other times you may need something that gives you more time and space to recharge.

At Create a Self-Care Menu, teens will look at self-care like a dinner menu, with lighter “appetizers,” more filling “entrees,” and the occasional “dessert.” They’ll explore what fits into each category, why different types of self-care matter, and how to make those strategies realistic in their everyday lives.

By creating their own menu, teens can leave with a variety of options to turn to based on what they need in the moment.

Difficult moments can make it harder for teens to slow down, think through what they’re feeling, and decide what to do next.

REST and ACCEPTS introduces two DBT skills that can help teens create some space between a stressful moment and their response to it.

They’ll learn how REST can help them pause, evaluate what’s happening, and choose their next step, while ACCEPTS offers different ways to shift their attention and get through intense emotions.

Through peer-led conversation and practice, teens can explore both skills and find strategies they can turn to when things feel overwhelming.

Self-care is easier to prioritize when teens have ideas ready before they need them.

31 Days of Self-Care turns that idea into a month-long challenge, with teens creating an October calendar that includes one way to care for themselves each day. From small things that fit into a busy school day to activities that give them a chance to recharge, each teen can fill their calendar with choices that feel realistic for their life.

By the end of the group, they’ll have a full month of reminders to make time for themselves.
