Ever wondered how radio signals travel around the world? 🤔

This classic training film from the 1950s does a great job visually explaining radio wave propagation and how signals bounce through the atmosphere. While it was originally produced decades ago, the concepts it shows are still fundamental to how amateur radio works today.

If you’re new to ham radio or just want a clearer picture of what’s happening when your signal travels beyond the horizon, this is a great introduction.

Take a few minutes and check it out:

It’s always fun to see how radio education was taught in the early days, and how the science still applies to what we do on the air today.

Sometimes it's just easier to bring your own tree to the park!

Check out this quick portable setup: 33' mast supporting a 40m EFHW antenna, paired with a QRP 5W radio. Even with low power, it pulled in 10 solid FT8 contacts, not bad for a lazy afternoon activation!

Proof that you don't need tall trees or a big station to get on the air and have fun.

Great POTA activation at Hilgard Park (US-2833)! David NI7RO brought his Yaesu FT-710 and Buddipole antenna, running off battery power, and had success with 10 SSB contacts and over a dozen FT8 QSOs on 20m. KM7BSX joined the fun, hunting POTA contacts and logging about 6 of her own. KM7BMC stopped by to watch and learn. Even some park visitors got curious and chatted with the crew about the setup. Great day, great vibes!
