This is why it is worth either growing your own or, in season, buying wonderful organic blueberries or other fruit, eating as much as you possibly can (we do), and then freezing some on your own, or making jam. Here in Wisconsin, in addition to local berries, we can get blueberries from Michigan at the peak of their season.

The Organic Trade Association on carrageenan: We've never met a carcinogen, useful to agribusiness, that we didn't like:

"OTA Position: Carrageenan currently meets the criteria for continued listing: IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE HARMFUL TO HUMAN HEALTH or the environment, is necessary for organic production, there are no viable alternatives, and is consistent with organic handling."
