Consumer Credit Counseling Service of La Crosse is instructing these great courses!! Here are some brief descriptions of the courses:

Rent Smart:
It is a free six hour course that is designed to provide practical education to help potential renters to both acquire and keep decent housing. It helps individuals who are likely to have trouble getting rental housing due to lack of experience or poor

rental history, including evictions. Checkwise:
This class is designed for people who currently don’t have a checking account with a financial institution or want to learn more about their current account. The class is $30 per household or $25 for the online course. Checkwise offers the opportunity to open an account with a participating financial institution even if individuals have had problems in the past. Participants will learn how to choose an account that is right for them, including low cost checking options and how to avoid costly fees. They will learn what they need to know to keep their checking account in balance. They will also hear why and how a relationship with a financial can help them establish credit and access other services. The key to this class is that before receiving a certificate participants must complete a free financial analysis addressing income and expenses with one of our certified counselors. I already have quite a few financials on board to consider Checkwise certificates when opening accounts.

Are you struggling with your mortgage due to Covid?
If you are a homeowner and COVID-19 has made it difficult for you to pay your mortgage, utilities, property taxes, or other home expenses, financial assistance may already be available for you. The Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) was established by the American Rescue Plan Act to help homeowners financially impacted by COVID-19 with housing-related costs. This federal assistance program provides money to states, Tribes, territories, and the District of Columbia to assist homeowners with housing-related costs.
