Rev Krista Taves explores how practicing democracy is a way for us to live out our UU Values. She states that democracy is an act of love for others. When we vote we need to consider the 7 Guiding Principles. This is a pre-recorded sermon from July 26th, 2026.

This morning’s service also features a special skit with our youth and Terry Nirva playing drums with the UU Choir!

Rev Krista Taves was previously a contract minister at UU Fellowship of La Crosse. She currently is the Lead minister at Eliot Unitarian Chapel in Kirkwood, MO.

A low-pressure call to whatever action your heart is guiding you to take to make the world just a little bit better. Or maybe to save your whole nation, who knows? We’ll explore the Hebrew story of Esther, and see if we find ourselves anywhere in it.

Rev. Misha Sanders (she/her/hers), is a community minister and chaplain in Metro Atlanta. She is co-affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association and The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries. She is a fiery preacher of the good news of Universal Love, and believes that the whole world is built and rebuilt by the stories we tell ourselves and each other.

In this year of dissent and discourse, how do we find those qualities within ourseves to help better the world we live in? Are our Seven or Eight Principles or our Centering with Love enough to make the deep changes in ourselves and the world that needs to so desperately happen? Rev Jo Green will explore how we can have courage, how we can bring justice, and how we can add much more kindness to this world we live in.

Based on his own experiences as a UU La Crosse member of 16 years, David Boen will talk about our Fellowship and what it’s like to be a member. Whether you’re visiting us for the first time, or you’ve been a member for as long (or longer!) than David, this talk aims to lift up and celebrate the many meaningful ways you can connect with our community.

David Boen has been a UU for over 25 years, first in Clarksville Tennessee and then La Crosse since 2010. Almost from the beginning he has volunteered by being on committees, work projects, community outreach and whatever came along. He retired from the air conditioning industry in 2018 and then spent a few years teaching at Western Technical College. He is an avid bicyclist, kayaker, and theatre goer. Most of all he loves his family and all the joy that they bring. He has 5+ grandchildren from a blended family. He is the current chair of the Social and Environmental Justice team.

We encourage curious friends and community members who are looking to learn more about UU La Crosse. In addition to David’s talk, this service will also include a New Member Recognition to formally welcome and introduce our newest members!

Along with many other UU congregations, we traditionally celebrate our coming together in the fall by pouring a bit of water that has been collected over the summer into a common container. This action symbolizes the flowing together of our lives in religious community as we begin a new season, and the water itself represents our diverse personal sources of spiritual refreshment and renewal. “Many wells, one river,” as they say. You are invited to bring a small container of water with you to the service. You may also bring a small stone or rock. The stones will be added to our “Joys and Concerns” vessel. All are welcome to participate (or not, it’s completely optional). Hope to see you there!

There will be no service this Sunday because of the holiday weekend. Join us next Sunday (September 13th) as we kick off the new program year with our annual Rock and Water Ingathering Service!

Join us for this fun and entertaining yearly tradition! This service will take place at Riverside Park at the Great River Folk Fest grounds. The service will begin at 9:30 AM. If you have folding chairs convenient, please bring them—otherwise, chairs will be provided. All are welcome, so please invite friends and family!

This year’s performer is Vance Gilbert! Look for the tent at the North end of the park. Best entrance is the main one, off State Street.
