While we’re talking about Altra Federal Credit Union today….VOTE FOR HORSESENSE!

HorseSense was nominated earlier this summer for their 2026 Best Life Community Award. After an application round, we have made it to the top 10 finalist round and we need your help! The finalist with the most votes between now and October 23rd will win $10,000. Anyone is eligible to vote and you do NOT have to be an Altra member to participate. Thank you to Altra Federal Credit Union for another amazing Altra Gives Back Day yesterday!

HorseSense loves being a part of this day every year and Altra always sends such a hardworking group our way. Yesterday this team helped us get our mounting ramp in place, general cleaning around the barn, and stacking plenty of hay. Everyone definitely put in the work and we could not be more appreciative. Toni and Duncan also had to make an appearance since Altra is currently sponsoring the wonderful duo🧡🩷

One of your favorite fjords celebrated an anniversary this weekend! Our beloved Elsa has officially been a HorseSense herd member for 12 years😆

Elsa joined the herd in 2014 and has been a program staple ever since. This lovely girl works with a wide range of participants both in and out of the saddle. Elsa will never turn down grooming or a bath while she snacks on hay and she loves participating in her mounted lessons by choosing lesson props by touching them with her nose.

Just like her movie name buddy, the cold has never bothered this lady and winter is absolutely her favorite time of year. Outside of lessons she’s often with her bestie Alma as the two snack away together and nap in the sun.

Bring a friend, bring an appetite, and help us bring the win home for the No Barriers Fund!

HorseSense has been selected as one of four pitches at the next La Crosse SOUP on Tuesday, October 13th and we need YOU!

Our wonderful board member Megan will be presenting on our behalf, and she'd love to look out and see some friendly faces in the crowd. Every supporter who shows up gives us a better shot at taking home the win!

🗓️When: Tuesday, October 13th

📍Where: Myrick Park, 2107 La Crosse ST. La Crosse WI 54601

✨5:00 p.m. Doors open, with food and beverages served
✨6:00 p.m. Program and pitches begin
✨7:30 p.m. Winner announced

How does SOUP work? La Crosse SOUP is a simple, community-driven way to fund great ideas. For a suggested donation of $5, you'll enjoy a warm bowl of soup from Grounded Patio Cafe, fresh bread, and sweet treats, plus a vote. Four local organizations each pitch a project, and when the presentations wrap up, everyone casts a ballot. The project with the most votes takes home the money collected at the door.

What is the No Barriers Fund? Our No Barriers Fund, also known as our scholarship program, removes the financial barrier for participants who want to join our programs but don't qualify for third-party funding. Scholarships help more people enjoy the outdoors, connect with horses, and build confidence. This fall alone, HorseSense will award more than $5,000 in scholarships, and in a typical year of full programming, that number approaches $10,000. Every dollar raised for the No Barriers Fund helps us reach more people and makes the magic of equine-assisted services accessible to anyone who needs it.

Will we see you on November 19th!?

Guests will enjoy Freighthouse appetizers during cocktail hour, raffles, community conversation, and the first hour of an award-winning film. Tickets go on sale October 18th and you can find out more about the event and the film at https://horsesensewi.org/rescued-hearts.

Thank you to Coulee Arts for providing their lovely venue for this event! Coulee Arts (formally known as the The RAD) was started in 2024 and exists to inspire exploration and empower community through film, music, and the creative arts. Coulee Arts is a multidisciplinary arts organization focused on film, music, and the creative arts through production, events, education, and advocacy. The organization is committed to creating opportunities for people of all ages to learn, create, perform, and connect while strengthening the arts throughout the Driftless Region.

HorseSense has been chosen as one of the 4 pitches at the next La Crosse SOUP on October 13th! Our amazing board member Megan is taking this event on and she’d love to see some friendly faces there. The more support we have, the better chance we have to win🐴

What is La Crosse SOUP? Every individual who comes pays $5 at the door and that gets you a bowl of soup, bread, and a vote. 4 different organizations will present on a certain project and at the end everyone gets to cast their vote. Whichever presentation has the most votes at the end wins all of the money collected at the door!

HorseSense will be pitching our No Barriers fund (also known as the scholarship program). The team got to visit our favorite blue eyed boy last Friday!

Bud is absolutely thriving and living the best retirement life. The handsome Appaloosa with him is named Jack and the two are absolute peas in a pod, always next to each other and hanging out. September 26th would have been Bud’s 17th anniversary with HorseSense and we remain grateful for all the years of service he gave the program. This is exactly the spoiled and quiet life he deserves after touching so many lives.

Thank you to Erin and her family for providing the absolutely best retirement home for our guy. Continue to enjoy retirement Bud, we’ll come and visit you again soon😊❤️
