A STATEMENT FROM HOPE RESTORES
Our hearts are heavy today.
Yesterday, our community experienced a heartbreaking tragedy, the loss of a 15-year-old young person to gun violence.
A child.
Someone’s baby. Someone’s family member. Someone’s friend. Someone who should have had so many more birthdays, memories, dreams, and moments ahead.
Hope Restores extends our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, loved ones, friends, classmates, and everyone whose heart has been touched by this devastating loss. There are simply no words that can take away this kind of pain.
As a community, we grieve together.
We also want our young people and families to know something very important: you do not have to carry grief, fear, anger, or confusion alone.
La Crosse is a community filled with people and organizations that care. There are counselors, youth programs, community organizations, faith communities, support groups, schools, advocates, mentors, and neighbors who are ready to stand beside you.
Please reach out.
Check on our young people, not just today, but in the days and weeks ahead. Ask them how they are doing. Give them permission to talk, cry, be angry, ask questions, or simply sit with someone they trust.
And if your family needs additional support, please reach out to Hope Restores or one of the many organizations throughout our community. We are here. You are not alone.
Today, we hold this family close to our hearts.
May they be surrounded by love, strength, compassion, and community during an unimaginable time.
When one of our children is lost, our entire community feels that loss. May we respond by holding our children a little closer, listening a little longer, loving a little harder, and continuing to build a community where every young person knows their life matters.
With love and deepest sympathy,
Hope Restores
