La Crescent Community Garden The La Crescent Community Garden gives La Crescent area residents an opportunity to work together, growing food for ourselves, the food shelf, and others.

The La Crescent Community Garden was established in 2006 under the auspices of the La Crescent Area Healthy Community Partnership. The Community Garden is a volunteer organization in collaboration with Messiah Lutheran Church. The garden is located on the corner of the church property Jonathan Lane and N. 9th St in La Crescent. The goals of the garden are:
• To offer garden plots to members of th

e La Crescent community
• To encourage participants to eat seasonally and locally
• To grow food for ourselves, the local food shelf and others
• To garden as organically as possible
• To create an opportunity for community members to work together

The LaCrescent Community Garden has a couple of garden plots available for the 2026 gardening season. The garden is located at 925 Jonathan ln on the property of Messiah Lutheran Church. The plots are 10x10 and cost $25 for the season. Plantings must be organic and can be your choice of vegetables and/or flowers.

With the recent updates to SNAP (food assistance) benefits, many families in our community will soon be feeling an even greater strain. As these changes take effect, more people will be turning to local food pantries for help — and our network is preparing to meet that increased need.

That’s why we’re extending our 3rd Annual Virtual Food Drive. Every dollar raised helps keep food on the tables of families right here in our community — and ensures our partners have the resources they need in the weeks ahead.

Looking to visit an apple orchard in the next few weeks? Can we suggest supporting the Food Shelf at Van Lin Orchards on October 18th? We will have a food tent set up and will be collecting your donations of non-perishable food items. AND, the orchard will be donating 10% of it's apple sales that day back to the Food Shelf, so it's a win-win for everyone! We hope to see you there!
