Have a story about an Altadena tree you’d like to share?

The Altadena Tree Stories project is hosting a September tree story session on the upcoming weekends of September 12th-13th and 19th-20th. The project is an archive of the communities trees preserved through oral history interviews and photographs, and is led by Altadena resident and science journalist Mona Patterson and Bay-Area photographer Andrea Gaffney.

There is no fee for the documentation.
The interview and photography will require about an hour of your time.
As a small token of gratitude, you will receive a small instant print of your tree.

AltadenaWILD is excited to announce we are a recipient of the 2026 AARP Community Challenge Grant program. The AARP Community Challenge program helps make tangible improvements in communities that jump-start long-term change.

In the aftermath of the Eaton Fire more than 50% of the Altadena community's urban tree canopy was lost. With our ReGreen Altadena initiative we are providing Altadena home owners with trees to take home and educational workshops & resources to ensure new trees planted long-term success. This project is funded in part by a grant from AARP

Trees are a valuable resource to any community and they are a staple to the Altadena community's legacy. As Altadena rebuilds homes, there is an opportunity for neighbors reconnect with the trees and landscape of the community. There is also a chance to reestablish trees as generational infrastructure around homes, gardens and parks creating a living legacy.

🔺️MEETING TONIGHT

Pasadena Unified to Replace Fire-Contaminated Soil, Nearly 200 Trees at 11 Campuses and Sites This Summer

State-ordered Eaton Fire remediation will haul away roughly 13,400 tons of soil across an estimated 613 truckloads at a projected cost of $6.6 million.

A Pasadena Unified School District plan calls for the removal of nearly 200 trees across 11 campuses. Advocates believe at least 16 trees have been felled so far. The district says it’s due to potential soil contamination caused by the Eaton Fire.

Two students, 17-year-old Paloma Munaiz-Ochoa and 18-year-old Jasper Bang are now tree sitting to protect one oak.

AltadenaWILD alongside CSUN Forestry and Outward Bound Adventures are congratulating 20 corps members on their participation in the pilot ReGreen Altadena workforce development program.

These members learned from Southern California professionals in arboriculture, urban forestry, and fire-wise landscaping + home-hardening techniques.

In the pilot phase we also hosted our first tree giveaway in November 2025, servicing hundreds of Altadena residents with new fruit trees and California native species in efforts to begin restoring the urban tree canopy after the Eaton Fire.

Today, AltadenaWILD and Altadena Green are moving forward with phase two of the ReGreen Altadena initiative with upcoming educational opportunities to help residents pick the right tree for their gardens, and plant them in the right place for the trees to flourish for years to comes. Plus more tree giveaways for the community!
