This was provided to all commissioners in fact broadly share with a communication throughout the entire Hays County. Very sad that our commissioner failed to read or care about informing themselves. Building a new facility without changing the operational plan is what we have now, an over crowded facility. No programming equals spending good tax payer dollars with no plan. The commisoners court, turned away national funding support, and national best practices, programming that no one in the entire county is providing, with 4 to 1 vote. APA is a nationally backed organization to support the best interests of our pets, lost and found and social services to support the human animal bond. The county has neglected their role for decades. Local non profits do not have the bandwidth to pick up where the current regional shelter has fallen short. A terrible display of poor leadership.

Exciting News for Hays County Animal Welfare!

I’m thrilled to announce that Hays County is leading a transformative shift in animal welfare with the support of PetSmart Charities!

Austin Pets Alive! has received a multi-year grant to develop the Hays County Pet Resource Center from 2025 to 2027, based on the revolutionary Human Animal Support Services (HASS) model. This new approach focuses on community needs and strengthens the human-animal bond.

While helping lead this project, Ithe team committed to ensuring we use current research and best practices to support responsible use of taxpayer dollars. The Pet Resource Center will create a supportive environment for pet owners, helping keep families whole and pets safe.

A balance of coalition building and continued support of the work of our local advocates and non-profits will continue to a part of Hays County’s overall success.

As Kate Atema from PetSmart Charities said, “Helping pet owners keep their animals safe and their families whole is part of what builds a thriving community.”

Let’s celebrate this step forward in animal welfare!

In these challenging times, it’s essential that we promote a higher level of accountability in our local government. During my time as Chief of Staff, a collaborative community effort led to crucial reforms and resources that Hays County needed, including Padilla Representation, Pre-Trial Services, and a strengthened Public Defender Office.

The recent Hays County Jail assessment took a hard look at the true costs of incarceration, providing valuable insights into our justice system. The Hays County Vera Institute of Justice Dashboard is a valuable public resource that illuminates our incarceration rates and population, emphasizing the importance of an informed citizenry in shaping responsible public policy.

I was taken aback to see an agenda item for the upcoming commissioners court meeting sponsored by Commissioner Michelle Cohen and Sheriff Anthony Hipolito. “To terminate Software Services with the Vera Institute”, It raises questions about transparency, especially since the public has not been adequately informed about this issue. My hope is that there is replacement to continue informing the public.

We have not seen a significant reduction in population being transported to Haskell County, and are still not using 100% of our county jail. This is still costing the county approximately $114,000 weekly. We be demanding better stewardship of our tax payer dollars.

Hey everyone! I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the overwhelming amount of support, kind words, and encouragement I've received from so many of you. Your thoughtfulness truly means the world to me.

Looking back, I'm incredibly proud of the professional, positive, and impactful campaign we ran together. We focused on the issues that matter most and stayed true to our values throughout. 👏

Moving forward, I'll be diving into the numbers and details to gain further insights. I believe in the importance of learning from every experience, and this campaign is no exception.

To each and every one of you who have been by my side, offering your friendship, support, and valuable time, I want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU. Your dedication and belief in me have been invaluable, and I couldn't have done this without you. 🙏

We gave it our all and left everything on the field, which is something we can all be proud of. Now, it's time to move on, holding our heads high and cherishing the memories we've made.
