Meet the Dollywood Litter!

These 5 orphans were going to be euthanized by the shelter, as they needed to be bottle fed every 2 hours and had no overnight staff.

We listed our rescue as an absolute last resort, as they had zero pledges and these puppies had medical conditions and transport we’d need to fundraise for, but no one stepped up and their lives were on the line. The shelter generously stayed open half an hour late for us, and told us about another litter of orphans they were prepping for euthanasia in the back, asking if we’d take them too. We’ll introduce them in another post.. both came home with us.

I was bottle feeding nonstop, without sleep, for 36 hours straight until emergency temp fosters could step in. Our last minute puppy fosters have been heroes, but we still need more as the litters get older.

We have an Austin adoption event THIS SATURDAY - Sept 19 at Hollywood Feed ‘s Capitol of Tx Highway location at Gateway (by Whole Foods and REI). Play with puppies, ask us about fostering, and apply to adopt if you fall in love!

Have you ever wanted a tailed Aussie?

Cosmo is somehow still looking for a furever home.

This boy is sweet, cuddly, and lower energy for an Aussie.

Cosmo loves the water, ball pit, and Easter Bunny. He enjoys playing with his doggy foster siblings; his foster mom says he was also gentle and sweet around her 1 year old nephew. He hasn’t lived with children or cats in the home, but his foster reports that he ignores strays and does not have a prey drive.

Cosmo came from a large-scare breeding operation and was undersocialized, but still tries his best to be the goodest boy. That being said, he can be shy at first, and novel experiences like a car driving by quickly, strangers coming into the house, or the mailman can frighten him. He does have some separation anxiety but is kennel trained and can be left alone for 3-4 hours at a time. He has bonded with men within the home, but prefers women, especially when it comes to strangers. Cosmo will need a patient home that understands the breed, and loves him for who he is.. not just his flashy looks.

We can write a book about how loving and goofy this boy is, but swipe to see the videos for yourself. He is currently being fostered in Houston TX, but can be transported for the perfect home.

Cosmo is still looking for a home!

This sweet, loving 3 year old Australian Shepherd is dog friendly, gentle, and submissive. He loves to play, is smart, and lower energy compared to other Aussies.

He loves to cuddle and will gaze at you with his marbled-colored blue and brown eyes. He is about 50 lbs, and loves to rest his weight on you like a stress blanket. He is a true Velcro dog and wants to be your shadow. He struggles with separation anxiety and would like a home where someone is usually around, but is kennel trained and can be left alone for up to 3-4 hours at a time.

This goofy, loyal boy loves sitting in a bucket of water on a hot day, and has a gorgeous, fluffy tail that needs regular brushing. He can be on the shy side at first, but makes friends with people and other dogs, and is over all easy going. Even when other dogs have bullied him, this good boy just rolls over and tries to please.

Cosmo is currently being fostered in Houston, but is available for adoption anywhere in the US.

Meet Merlin: An adorably fluffy 1.5-2Y Toy Aussie who was rescued from the euthanasia list at a Houston-area shelter.

Don’t let his 17lb size fool you, Merlin shows a lot of working/herding breed traits and is a bundle of fun and energy… he can easily match the physical activity of a dog 2-3x his size!

Merlin’s top characteristics:
💞 Very friendly and affectionate! He is sweet with new people (and at the vet!)

🔐 Distinctively loyal to his own people

🧠 Highly intelligent and motivated - picked up most of his basic obedience very quickly

🦴 Motivated by food and toys

🚗 Good in the car

🧩 Active, but very easy to entertain. Merlin loves fetch, tug, flirt poles, chasing the jet setting on a hose (his fav and great for a hot day), squeaky toys. He may be small but he is young and NOT a couch potato - he is at his best when he gets at least 2-3 hours of exercise and enrichment per day (walks/jogs, backyard play, puzzle treats, training, etc.)

🐈 Good with other dogs and cats (he lives with 2 dogs and 3 cats and has met several other new dogs). He can be very herd-y when another dog is running, especially a new dog, so would not recommend him for a dog park setting

Merlin’s work-in-progress:
🤍 He has likely been roughly handled in the past (likely by a dog catcher, since he was a stray) and is sensitive to being pushed into a confined space, like a crate. He is pretty tolerant with collar handling when it’s gentle and by someone he trusts, and he does go into a crate willingly when a treat is tossed/his food is in a crate and can settle down in there.
💜 On walks, He has been showing some interest in herding large trucks and likes to bark at runners. He’s not difficult to redirect and isn’t difficult to handle (being so small). Getting some of his energy out before a walk (with a 5-10 min play session) has significantly reduced these instances
💙 He is jumpy for attention! He is still working on improving his manners when he gets excited to see you
💛 He’s marked in the house and needed a belly band, but hopefully (now that he’s freshly neutered), that’ll improve.

Being married to an animal lover means occasionally coming home to a house full of random strays!

Introducing the Latte Litter - these 5 Heeler puppies were going to be put down by a rural county shelter for “behavior” at only 8 weeks old. They’d tremble in fear, refuse treats, protect each other, and even growl/bite… very unusual behavior for even stray puppies of this age. They were not just unsocialized, they were feral and extremely fearful. In their short 2 months on this planet, they had already experienced the worst of humanity.

Fortunately, 3 of our fosters have since stepped up to rescue them from euthanasia. Since being split up into different foster homes, with confident adult dogs to guide their way, they’ve come out of their shell and are starting to act like actual puppies. They’re learning to play, sit, fetch, and trust.

We are still looking for 2 more fosters so we can completely divide them up. They rehabilitate much quicker when separated. There are 3 males and 2 females.
