🎉 Kutztown Rotary Turns 100!

We kicked off our centennial with a Roaring 20’s celebration at the Astor Event Center — great food, great company, and a whole lot of sparkle.

Rotary District 7430 Governor Mary Cook and Rotary International Foundation Trustee Marty Helman shared powerful reflections on our history, global impact and the importance of membership and belonging. We were honored with a mayoral citation, a lively look back at our club’s story, and a night of dancing, costumes, and the Charleston.

Here’s to 100 years of service — and the next century ahead. 💙💛

🌟 Celebrating Our 2025-2026 Kutztown Rotary People of Action Award 🌟

Great communities don’t just happen — they are built, sustained, and inspired by people who step forward, bring others together, and turn vision into reality. This week, the Kutztown Rotary Club had the honor of recognizing one of those remarkable leaders.

We are proud to present this year’s Kutztown Rotary People of Action Award to Sandy Green.

A lifelong resident of the Kutztown area, Sandy has dedicated her life to strengthening our community through leadership, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to service. She truly embodies Rotary’s spirit of Service Above Self.

Sandy made history as the first woman elected Mayor of Kutztown, serving for 12 years and guiding the borough through meaningful growth and revitalization. Under her leadership, Kutztown earned Main Street designation, expanded economic development efforts, and deepened its partnership with Kutztown University — building a “town and gown” connection that continues to benefit both.

But Sandy’s impact reaches far beyond her time in office.

For more than two decades, she has been a driving force within the Kutztown Community Partnership, helping lead initiatives that support the arts, enhance quality of life, and bring people together. She has a rare ability to turn vision into action — the kind of leader who doesn’t ask, “Why hasn’t this been done?” but instead says, “Let’s get started.”

Her influence can be seen in some of Kutztown’s most meaningful recent projects:

*The Wall That Heals (2023) — bringing a powerful experience of remembrance and healing to thousands of visitors
*The Keith Haring Fitness Court — securing Kutztown as one of only ten communities nationwide to receive this innovative blend of public art and wellness
*The restoration of the historic Kutztown Strand Theatre — helping preserve a beloved cultural landmark and reimagine its future

Through her continued work with Kutztown University — as Community Liaison, Government Relations Assistant, and member of the Council of Trustees — Sandy has strengthened connections that enrich both the campus and the community. Her impact has been so significant that she received the University’s **President’s Medal**, becoming the first non‑alumna and first woman to earn this honor.

What sets Sandy apart is not just what she has accomplished, but how she leads — with humility, determination, and a genuine love for her community. She doesn’t seek recognition. She simply sees what needs to be done and gets to work. And along the way, she inspires the rest of us to do the same.

For her lifetime of meaningful service, we are honored to recognize Sandy Green with the Kutztown Rotary People of Action Award.

We also celebrated our Paul Harris Fellows and recognized members who continue to uplift and strengthen our community in real, lasting ways.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do.
There is so much heart in Kutztown — and we are grateful to be part of it. 💛

March is Rotary’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Month, and our club marked the occasion with a meaningful Centennial Service Project. Throughout February, we partnered with Help a Girl Out USA to collect feminine hygiene products and diapers for organizations serving families across Berks County.

Help a Girl Out USA is a grassroots initiative dedicated to restoring dignity and providing essential support to women and girls in Berks and Schuylkill counties. Their mission aligns beautifully with Rotary’s commitment to improving health, access, and opportunity in our communities.

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped us make a difference. Small acts of care create big waves of impact—and together, we’re helping ensure that every woman and girl has access to the essentials she deserves.

Celebrating young leaders!
hosted the 4‑Way Test Speech Contest, featuring two incredible students—Jonathon Z. (Kutztown HS) and Kyle H. (Muhlenberg HS).
Both speeches were fantastic, and the competition was close.
Congratulations to Kyle, our club winner, who now advances to Regionals!
We’re proud to support students who lead with integrity, passion, and purpose.

Kutztown Rotary proudly hosted our 89th Annual Farmers’ Night at the Lyons Fire Company, a tradition dating back to 1938 and still going strong! 🚜✨

Kutztown Rotary President-Elect Laura McBride shared: "Farmer’s Night is a long standing tradition for the Kutztown Rotary Club to honor the farmers in Berks County who work hard in order to put food on all of our tables. We look forward to celebrating these farmers every year and are pleased that this year’s Farmer’s Night was a huge success. The club looks forward to continuing this event for many more years to come."

In this holiday season, our hearts are full of gratitude. To our supporters, partners, and community members—because of you, we have been able to make a lasting difference:

• 🎓 Student Scholarships: Over 7,000 awarded
• 🏓 Legacy Gifts for our 100th Anniversary: $14,000 invested in community use pickleball courts at Brandywine Area School District and Kutztown Community Park
• ❤️ Grants to Local Charities: $17,415 supporting organizations that uplift our neighbors

Before Thanksgiving, we hosted our annual Club Foundation Night, where we gave away funds to local non‑profits. It was deeply impactful to share a meal with these organizations, hear about their challenges, and witness their passion to make a difference.

We also extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and supported Taste of Kutztown, joined us for Bingo nights, and sponsored our fundraising and community events. Your presence and partnership make these gatherings not only successful, but joyful celebrations of service.

Together, through your support and partnership, we have created a positive impact not only in our community but in the world.

From all of us at Kutztown Rotary—thank you for being part of this journey of service and generosity.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support Kutztown Rotary Club Booze, Buck$ & Bags Bingo on Saturday! 💖 We hope everyone had a great time playing bingo and winning some amazing prizes! 🎉

Because of your generosity, we collected a huge amount of food and personal care donations for the Kutztown University Bear Essentials Food Pantry. Food insecurity is significantly higher on college campuses than in the general population, so your contributions truly make a difference for KU students in need. 🫶

A big thank-you as well to all who donated raffle baskets—especially our many local businesses. Please remember to support them just as they support our community! 💛
