For Memorial Day, we're honoring Luke Shimer. Luke was a Northwestern Lehigh class of 2004 graduate, beloved husband, teacher, and U.S. Army veteran, who tragically passed away at the age of 33 on August 28, 2019 after a long battle with injuries sustained from being struck by lightning.

Last week, we presented our first annual Luke J. Shimer Memorial Scholarship to Justine Gross; a Northwestern Lehigh High School senior who embodies several of Luke’s passions including performing in band, the school's musicals, and chorus. Justine also plans to serve just as Luke did, as a member of the Army National Guard.

It was a special night for us as we dedicated a new annual scholarship in honor of Luke Shimer. Luke was a Northwestern Lehigh School District class of 2004 graduate who's life ended tragically after being struck by lightning. Luke was an Army hero, a teacher, and a close friend to many in the Northwestern community. We're honored to establish this scholarship in his honor.
