🚨 KUTZTOWN POLICE SAFETY ALERT 🚨

Suspected Rabid Skunk reported in the area of Carriage Point Estates, Kutztown, PA

This morning, the Kutztown Police were dispatched to a suspected rabid skunk in Carriage Point Estates (map). We were unable to locate the skunk but were told it went after a dog and a person.

For Your Safety:
• Do not approach, feed, or attempt to capture the animal.
• Keep children away.
• Keep pets indoors or under close supervision and ensure rabies vaccinations are current.
• Avoid contact with any wild animal exhibiting unusual behavior, including aggression, staggering, disorientation, paralysis, or a lack of fear of people.

If You Have Contact with the Animal:
• If you or your pet are bitten, scratched, or exposed to saliva from the animal, immediately wash the affected area with soap and water.
• Seek medical attention or veterinary care as soon as possible.

To Report Sightings: Residents who observe the suspected skunk or any wildlife displaying abnormal behavior are encouraged to contact the Kutztown Police Department at 610-683-3545.

The Kutztown Borough Council is seeking a resident of the first ward interested in being considered for an immediate appointment to the Kutztown Borough Council to serve through December 31, 2027. If the appointed person wishes to complete the final two years of this Council term, they would be required to run in the 2027 election. To be eligible for appointment, an applicant must be a registered voter residing in the first ward (North of Main Street) and have resided in the Borough of Kutztown for at least one year prior to September 15, 2026. Interested parties are encouraged to apply by submitting an application to the Borough before 4:00 PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Applicant interviews will be conducted in public at the Kutztown Borough Council meeting on September 15, 2026, which begins at 7:30 PM at the Kutztown Borough Train Station building. Kutztown Borough Council is expected to appoint a new Council member at the Borough Council meeting on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Appointment to the Borough Council is a unique opportunity for individuals to serve their community and be involved with the critical issues of Borough operations including utility operations, land development, budgeting, community and economic development.

When submitting an application, please mark the envelope Council Application Enclosed. Applications should be dropped off at the front desk in the Borough Hall building located at 45 Railroad Street, Kutztown, PA 19530.
