📖 Once upon a time, there was a heartwarming sequel to a chilly tale. In August, the Kuna Food Bank didn’t receive just one brand-new freezer—we received two! A shiny upright freezer was delivered about a week after the South Meridian Lowe’s donated a chest freezer. 🥰

👉 Here's the unexpected plot twist: after giving us the first freezer, Lowe's offered us a 50% discount on a second appliance. One of our volunteers, who wants to remain anonymous, covered the remaining balance. Wow! 🤩

🍏 Because of generosity of Lowe's #2792 and the anonymous donor, the Kuna Food Bank has additional 21 cubic feet for safely storing frozen foods. When we asked the community for a used freezer donation, we certainly didn't expect a story with such a humbling and happy ending. Thank you. 💚

☀️A summer project is having a meaningful effect. Thank you to the Veteran's Group at the Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI) for planting a garden and donating the vegetables to the Kuna Food Bank. 🫑

🌱The benefits of the garden are widespread. Food bank clients appreciate fresh produce and the veterans learned new skills while serving the community. Kuna Food Bank representatives Brenda Blitman and Terrie Rosenthal visited the garden last Wednesday and left with an assortment of beautiful vegetables to share.

📰The ISCI veteran's garden story is making headlines too. Reporters from the Idaho Press and the Idaho Statesman have prepared articles for their readers.

🧅The garden was made possible by the guidance of Idaho Department of Correction case manager Steve Mitchley and donations from American Legion Post 113, New Path Idaho, and Lowe’s. Thank you for your part in helping the veteran's garden come to life.💚

🫠A frosty donation is making our hearts melt. When the manager at the South Meridian Lowe’s heard we needed a freezer, the store donated one. 😍 Lowe’s team members delivered the new appliance Friday morning, increasing our freezer space by more than 8 cubic feet.

👉Additional freezer space became a necessity as the Kuna Food Bank joined the Feeding America network. With this partnership, we have access to more resources from food rescues and the Idaho Foodbank. Operations director Tallie is thrilled about the new freezer. She said, “It will help so much with the tons of freezer meat we’ve been getting.” 🍗🥓

💚Support for the Kuna Food Bank comes in many forms. Volunteers and donations of food and funds keep us going on a daily basis. For those times when unexpected repairs come up, we're grateful for donations of professional services.

🚐When the cooler in our refrigerated van needed to be fixed a couple weeks ago, the folks at Elite Systems came to our aid. Having the cooler in working order ensures we can maintain safe temperatures for perishables as we transport them from our food rescue partners to our facility.

Thank you Elite Systems for helping us keep our cool during these hot summer days! 😅🌡
