Hālau O Lilinoe at Hoʻōla ʻĀina o Kula 🌿

“ ʻAʻohe ʻulu e loaʻa i ka pokole o ka lou.
No breadfruit can be reached when the picking stick is too short.
Meaning that there is no success without preparation.”
— Mary Kawena Pukui, ʻŌlelo Noʻeau #213

We were honored to host Hālau O Lilinoe from Carson, California for a special day on the farm! They toured the ʻāina, prepared lei, shared dinner, and competed at the 18th annual Kū Mai Ka Hula competition at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. They proudly earned 2nd place in the Kūpuna division! 🙌🏾🌺

“ ʻAʻa i ka hula, waiho ka hilahila ma ka hale.
Dare to dance, leave your shame at home.”

Mahalo nui for your visit and e hoʻomaikaʻi on your beautiful hula performance! 💚

🌿 Mahalo nui to our wonderful volunteers, Malia and Leslie, who joined us on the farm during their visit from Oʻahu! 💚 Together we harvested guava and blueberries, sharing good company along the way. 🥰

Every hand, every smile, and every hour of kōkua nourishes not only the ʻāina but also the people who call it home. ✨

If you or your group would like to learn, connect, and volunteer with us, we’d love to host you! Send us a message and come be part of growing food, medicine, native plants for the community!

We look forward to growing with you!

We were honored to welcome the Winifred Stevens Foundation with special guests from the continent for a fun gathering at our farm.

Friends joined us for a garden tour and a food-to-table dinner, uplifted by song and dance.

The day was a beautiful exchange of indigenous knowledge, culture, and spirit-woven together with nourishing food and heartfelt conversations over the golden Kula sunset.

Mahalo nui for sharing in this journey of aloha ʻāina with us. E Ola!

Even though it’s been a dry summer, our vegetable gardens and fruit trees have remained healthy and generous.

Featured here is Marata with a momona ʻuala (sweet potato) harvest, choy sum, bok choy, and won bok from our garden boxes that were built and cared for by our dedicated Kupu members and farm assistants.

Look at all the stages of growth and progress! We are always proud and honored to donate these nutritious foods to our Maui community and Maui Food Bank.

If you’d like to join us in this legacy of continuous giving, please send us a message.

“Mai makaʻu i ka hana, makaʻu i ka moloā.”

Don’t be afraid of the work—be afraid of laziness. 💪🏽

Our wāhine community volunteers showed up with aloha, fulfilled kuleana, and had fun doing it! 💪🏽🌱💜

We laid w**d mat in the new Hoʻōla greenhouse, harvested ʻuala, and tackled w**ds. Maikaʻi loa!

Mahalo piha for the love, nutrients and support. Stay connected and join us next time!

Kia ora tātou!

“Hāpaitia te ara tika, pūmau ai te rangatiratanga mō ngā uri whakatipu.”

Foster the pathway of knowledge to strength, independence, and growth for the future.

Last month, haumāna, Kumu and ‘ohana of Ke Kula ʻo Piʻilani completed a special workshop series with a final pūtātara session led by Marata Hoet, a respected Māori artist, carver, and farmer with UpCountry Farm Specialties and their nonprofit hui, Hoʻōla Āina o Kula.

The pūtātara, a conch shell trumpet with a carved wooden mouthpiece, is a taonga unique to Māori culture, traditionally used to signal, warn, connect, and honor sacred moments. Its cousin, the pūmoana, shares similar origins across Polynesia, where conch shell instruments—known as pū in many island cultures—have long been used by Indigenous peoples to call communities together, mark ceremony, and carry ancestral intention. These instruments resonate with healing, wave-like tones that purify space, awaken lineage, and bring people together in harmony.

Hūlō! Hūlō! The new Ho‘ōla ‘Āina o Kula Greenhouse is officially complete and mākaukau for propagation action!

Mahalo piha e ʻAnakala David a me ka ʻohana Hewahewa, our Kupu members, mahiʻai assistants, and everyone who contributed to each phase of bringing this vision to life.

Nestled in the uplands of Kula, this greenhouse will serve as both an educational resource and a living space to grow food and native plants for the Maui community.
