Museum of Hardin County Hardin County Genealogical Society is proud to announce the opening of the new museum. Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening was held Saturday, August 10th, 2013.

Three years in the making, with extensive renovation to the old bank building, the museum will make you Hardin County Proud. The two-story brick building now housing the Museum of Hardin County was constructed circa 1916 as the Hardin County State Bank. Purchased with grant funding by the Hardin County Genealogical Society, the building has been renovated by volunteers. The Museum occupies the fir

st floor, including the old bank vault now used for archival storage. The second floor serves as a meeting room and office of the Hardin County Historical Commission. Visitors can see the past come alive in exhibits of historical artifacts and rare photographs of pioneer settlers, steamboat and railroad commerce, sawmill towns, and oil boom days.

The Museum of Hardin County, 830 S. Maple, Kountze, Texas will feature a display of the guns of the Texas Rangers. This display will include some of the types of guns carried by Texas Rangers from their establishment in 1832 to the present time. Included in this display will be a copy of the 1847 C**t Walker revolver which was designated by the Texas Legislature in 2021 as the official handgun of the state of Texas.

This display can be seen on July 9, 10, 11, 2025 and July 16, 17, and 18, 2025. The museum is open from 10:00 to 1:00 Wednesday through Friday every week. Admission is free.
