Koppel residents, let's have a quick conversation over our morning coffee.
When I first talked to the Fire Chief about The Kids' Table, he told me, "It's a good idea, but I'm not sure it'll take off."
My immediate thought was, "Why wouldn't it?"
After talking with people around town, I realized something.
People in Koppel take a lot of pride in working hard for what they have. That's one of the things I love most about this community. We don't expect handouts. We figure things out. We help each other when things get tough.
But The Kids' Table isn't about whether someone works hard enough.
It's about the reality that everything costs more than it used to.
Kids are home all summer. They eat constantly. Grocery bills keep climbing. Sometimes even families who are doing everything right could use a little extra help.
That's why The Kids' Table is for all Koppel kids.
If picking up some lunches and snacks means one less stressful grocery trip this month, that's okay.
If it means you don't have to pick up an extra shift, that's okay too.
If it frees up money for shoes, school supplies, gas, or just gives you a little breathing room, that's exactly why we're doing this.
Community isn't just showing up when someone's house is on fire. It's looking out for each other before things become a crisis.
So if your family can use it, come.
If your family doesn't need it, help us spread the word.
At the end of the day, every kid in Koppel deserves to have food in the cupboard, snacks in the pantry, and one less thing for their parents to worry about.
That's what The Kids' Table is all about.
