Congrats Becky Hite Stoltzfus! We are so proud of what our members accomplish!

✨ Congratulations to Kokomo High School teacher Ms. Rebecca Stoltzfus! During this month’s regular meeting, our Board of School Trustees proudly recognized Ms. Stoltzfus for being named the 2026 Indiana History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. As part of this special recognition, she was presented with an official Resolution by Superintendent Dr. Mike Sargent.

With more than 30 years in the classroom, Ms. Stoltzfus challenges and inspires students across multiple academic pathways, including Advanced Placement (AP), Dual College Credit, and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.

As KHS Principal Angela Blessing shared:
“Ms. Stoltzfus brings American history to life every single day through her dynamic classroom instruction and commitment to academic excellence... She sets a high standard for scholarship while ensuring every Wildkat feels supported and inspired to reach their full potential…Ms. Stoltzfus proves through every lesson that legacy matters.”

11. ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS

Member Hall - Thank you for your comments. I love what we are doing, giving kids a chance. I love going to events. I come from trades and I love seeing that. Thank you for helping them achieve.

Member Durham - I stand by the education that KSC gave me. Ms. Stoltzfus was my teacher and volleyball coach and I've always remembered her. Look at what we have at KSC. I think it's great that we are able to honor her.

We are happy that we could take the insurance rates increase. I thinks it's wonderful that we've responsible enough to be in a good spot with our insurance.

Member Hurlocker - Shoutout to our administration so that we don't have to take out so many of those loans. I'm really glad we are able to get away from that.

Member White - I'm just reflecting on this space. I really appreciate the gratitude, the effort that everyone provides for our children. KSC provides everything that a child would need. Kokomo is top notch.

Member Mundy - Congrats Ms. Stoltzfus. I see everything that you do and go to all the time. You're always doing something to bring back more knowledge to your classroom. You're dedication is noted. And almost your whole department is here too. Our staff is second to none. I'm really glad you're being recognized.

I also appreciated the fall conference that the board went to as well. I'll be talking about the data that we received over the next few weeks too. The data really tells a story about how well we are doing despite how underfunded Indiana schools are in this state.

10. SUPERINTENDENT COMMENTS

Becky is an excellent teacher and we are blessed to honor her tonight. KSC has excellent teachers across the board. Congrats again Becky.

The board approved an MOU that allows direct admission to University of Indianapolis.

Health insurance has increased by 2% but the school board will be covering that cost.

Was able to spend some time with board members at some conferences.

We also had Parent Teacher Conferences today which means we are a quarter of the way through the school year. As a parent, thank you to our teachers, support staff for what they do.
