✨ WBC Member Spotlight: Lauren Gist, Co-Chair Education✨

We’re excited to spotlight another amazing woman in our community! 💛 Take a moment to get to know her heart, her values, and the perspective she brings to the Women’s Business Council.

As a Community Business Advisor with WalkerHughes Insurance, she believes in a people-focused philosophy. For the women of the WBC, she is a local resource dedicated to earning your trust through deep understanding and consistent service. Whether you are launching a new venture or scaling an established one, she is here to help you navigate the unexpected.

Integrity through authenticity. She refuses to compromise on being her honest, true self in both her personal and professional life. In the insurance world, trust is everything. By staying transparent and genuine with every person she meets, she ensures that the families and businesses she protects feel seen, heard, and truly valued.

Right now, success looks like alignment. It’s the peace of mind that comes from knowing her daily work reflects her personal values, and that the foundation she’s building is entirely her own. Her definition of success has definitely shifted over time. She once viewed success through external milestones, but today, it’s defined by the strength of her relationships and the quiet confidence of being exactly where she’s supposed to be.

Her biggest piece of advice is to remember that your story is a tool, not a cage. We all go through seasons that feel heavy or uncertain, but those chapters don't define your worth, they simply shape your perspective. If you’re feeling stuck, trust that the transition you’re in is actually the groundwork for your next level of strength. Own your narrative, learn from it, and then give yourself permission to start the next chapter on your own terms.

💛 We’re so grateful to have women like this in the WBC community—women who lead with authenticity, purpose, and heart.

✨ WBC Member Spotlight: Meet Katee Hershberger ✨

As an Associate Account Executive at WalkerHughes Insurance, she can help you navigate obtaining commercial insurance whether it is getting a quote or having her review your existing policy to see if there are any gaps in your coverage. She primarily works in Automotive Insurance but is happy to assist other commercial clients as well.

Working in the automotive industry for the past 10 years has truly shaped the woman and professional she is today. Early in her career, she often found herself stepping back—allowing men to lead conversations, guide decisions, and sometimes even speak on her behalf. But that shifted when she had the opportunity to work under a female dealership owner. She showed her what confidence, strong communication, and self-belief really look like in action. Watching her lead with authority and clarity helped Katee realize that her knowledge and abilities were just as valuable. That experience gave her the confidence to step forward, own her voice, and trust that she belongs in every room she walks into.

Her energy and time is a value she won’t compromis. She refuses to allow her energy or time be taken by menial thoughts, people, or events. If she is showing up, know that she is showing up with 100%. She has learned to say ‘No’ this year and has taken back her time for her family and her new career.

Something that may surprise you to learn about Katee is she received her California & Indiana Cosmetology License in 2014 while living in LA for 2 years. She began her bachelor’s degree at UCLA and finished at IUK graduating in 2018 with a BS in Communications with a minor in Geology & Event Planning (Hospitality). In 2020 she received her Masters in Public Management & Policy.

Her advice to a woman where she once was either stuck personal or professional would be simple: go—be uncomfortable. Some of the biggest growth in her life came from stepping into situations that felt uncertain. Moving to LA on her own at 19 was one of the best decisions she ever made. In those two years, she learned more about herself than she ever did sitting in a classroom. It gave her a deeper appreciation for where she came from and how she was raised. If you’re given an opportunity that feels uncomfortable, take it. You can always find your way back, but you’ll never regret the growth that comes from stepping outside your comfort zone.

✨ WBC Member Spotlight: Meet Shannon Spencer, Philanthropy Chair ✨

In my role as an Account Executive & Marketing Director at Angels of Mercy Home Health, I’ve learned that my true passion is connection. I love opening doors, building relationships, and helping women find the people, resources, and opportunities that move them forward. Whether it’s making an introduction or simply reminding someone of their strengths, I strive to show up as a connector and encourager every day.
Becoming deeply involved in service and nonprofit leadership was a turning point for me. Working alongside people navigating vulnerability, change, or uncertainty—both professionally in healthcare and personally through community service—taught me the power of empathy, presence, and purpose. I learned that leadership doesn’t always mean having all the answers; often it means listening, advocating, and walking alongside others with compassion and consistency. That realization continues to shape how I lead and how I live.
If there’s one value I’ll never compromise, it’s integrity. Doing the right thing even when it’s inconvenient or unseen. Trust is everything in both life and work. I want people to know that my word matters, that I will show up authentically, and that I genuinely care. Leading with integrity builds relationships that last and creates spaces where others feel respected, safe, and valued.
In this season of life, success looks a little different than it used to. It’s less about achievements and more about presence. It’s my family, my daughters, and especially being “Nonni” to my grandchildren—cheering them on, showing up, and soaking in the everyday moments that mean everything. This season of life is less about checking boxes and more about balance, joy, and presence.
Something people may not realize about me is how much of my heart is rooted in service outside of work. Being involved in community boards, nonprofits, and initiatives that support inclusion and connection fuels me and keeps me grounded in what truly matters.
If I could share one piece of advice, it would be this: trust that growth often begins before confidence catches up. You don’t have to have it all figured out—just be willing to take the next step. Say yes to opportunities that scare you, surround yourself with people who believe in you, and remember your voice matters more than you think.
So grateful to be part of a community like WBC that empowers women to grow, connect, and lead together. 💫

✨ WBC Member Spotlight: Meet Lisa Collins ✨

This week, we’re proud to shine a light on an incredible woman who leads with heart, integrity, and purpose—Lisa Collins our 2026 Social Co-Chair!

Lisa is an Account Executive at Metronet Business Fiber, she is passionate about helping businesses and nonprofits thrive by providing reliable, cost-effective technology solutions that truly support their growth. But beyond her title, it’s her why that makes her so inspiring.

Becoming a mother—and now a grandmother—has been the most defining moment that has shaped the woman she is today. Those roles have shaped the way she shows up in every space: with intention, resilience, and a deep desire to lead by example for her family.

At the core of everything Lisa does is one unwavering value: integrity. She believes in honesty, keeping promises, and facing challenges head-on—qualities that make her not only a trusted professional, but a remarkable person.

When asked what success looks like today, her answer is beautifully grounded: a strong 20+ year marriage, a loving blended family, and the joy of being grandparents together. 💛

And here’s something you might not expect—Lisa is a self-proclaimed “junker”! She finds joy in restoring antiques and giving new life to forgotten treasures… a reflection of her belief in second chances and the beauty of transformation.

Her advice to other women?
✨ Make time for you and what you love, keep your cup filled
✨ Be kind to yourself & celebrate all steps, small and large
✨ You can always choose how you react to all elements of life

Lisa, we are so grateful to have you as part of the WBC community. Your story, your strength, and your authenticity inspire us all. 💫

✨ WBC Member Spotlight: Meet Katie Tharp! ✨

We are so excited for our very first SPOTLIGHT of 2026, today we are shining a light on one of the incredible women in our circle — Katie Tharp 💛

Katie Tharp is a Residential Mortgage Production Assistant at Community First Bank of Indiana for 5 years. She brings a lot of knowledge from both the assistant and processing side of Mortgages. Right after your first meeting with your loan officer all the way to loan closing, she is your right-hand girl. She is always happy to help answer any mortgage related questions, and if she doesn’t know the answer, she will find someone who does 😊
If you haven’t had the chance to truly sit down and get to know her yet, here’s your inside look…

💫 What shaped her most?
Katie shared that one of the biggest influences in shaping who she is—both personally and professionally—has been her ever-growing relationship with Jesus. Learning to walk in step with Him daily has transformed the way she shows up in the world. That intentional faith foundation shines through in the way she carries herself — grounded, steady, and full of purpose.

🌻 A value she refuses to compromise?
Joy! Katie believes choosing joy keeps her grounded and steady through life’s challenges with a positive and steady mindset.

🏡 What does success look like in this season?
Her definition has beautifully evolved. Success now means a happy marriage, happy kids, and a happy her. It’s less about chasing big achievements and more about appreciating small, everyday moments. The little confirmations matter most, and make success feel meaningful and attainable.

💍 Something that might surprise you…
Katie and her husband eloped when she was 20 and he was 21. They didn’t tell anyone until just 3 hours before. “My kids better not ever do that to me! LOL”

🌟 Her advice to women feeling unsure or stuck:
“Your path is your own, and comparison will only dim what makes you special. Discover your unique gift, use it boldly, and trust that joy follows when you choose authenticity over imitation.”

We absolutely love that reminder.

If you see Katie at our next Women’s Business Council gathering, take a moment to connect with her beyond the business card. Ask her about joy. Ask her about redefining success. Ask her about that elopement story. 😉

Katie, we’re so grateful you’re part of this community! 💕
