Good Deed Beads

Good Deed Beads were presented to a few of the schools while the WASH team traveled to Malawi.

What are “Good Deed Beads”?

Good Deed Beads were created by Charlie & Eleanor, ages 8 & 10.

Charlie learned to make these beads in CCD (at the time called sacrificial beads)

His school was holding an entrepreneurial fair and each student needed to come up with a project to sell and the proceeds would go to a charity.

Charlie decided to rename the beads “Good Deed Beads” in order to spread kindness.

After learning about Wash for Life and reading about the Simon’s Backpack project the idea popped up : maybe the kids in Africa could have some “Good Deed Beads” for their backpacks.

Discovering that there were no actual backpacks did not quell his enthusiasm to share the beads. Charlie and his sister Eleanor began the process of making as many beads as possible. The whole family eventually got involved and 300 beads were eventually sent over on this past trip.

Yesterday was a very exciting day!!!! The WASH team was present while drilling occurred at Kachiswe School.

Drilling was a SUCCESS!!!

Soil Samples were taken every 5 meters.

The WASH team was able to visit Dedza Pottery & Lodge while traveling Wednesday, September 23rd.
They were able to see and purchase handmade pottery as well as tour the area where they make it.
They harvest, mold, cure, glaze and fire the clay right on site.

Wednesday, September 23rd

The WASH team and Sister Juliet visited St. Joesph’s Teacher Training College which is now a secondary school for girls and has a special learning center.

Victoria donated trundle sewing machines to the school so that older students can learn to sew and sell dresses.

Funds raised by Simon from Simon’s Backpacks were given to the special needs and primary students.

The WASH team was greeted by several sisters. Victoria has a close connection with Sister Grace, who is pictured presenting Victoria with a skirt made by students.
